Two more Edgefield men who were named WILLIAM HOLMES-- In the next deed, I first thought this William was the son of Edward and Elizabeth Burress Holmes. But Edward's son, William (b. abt 1813 - d.1849), would have been too young in 1829 to be involved in real estate. This has to be another William Holmes. I have 3 possible candidates: 1) William/Mildred Partin Holmes had a son, William; 2) My William Holmes, Jonas' son. The Wm Thurmond mentioned in deed is Lucy Thurmond's brother and sheriff about that time; or, 3)William Holmes who married Harriet E. Mims. Deed Bk 44:46. 2 Jun 1829. A.B. Augusta, Ward 4 Law, McKinne 33 (1837) Law, Mary E. 31 ((1839) GA Law, William F. 8 (1862) GA Holmes, Wm A. 38 (b. 1832)GA Harriett E. 21 (b 1849) GA Internet postings for Britton Mims and wife Mary Ann Edwards show daughter Harriett Eugenia Holmes b 1806 - d. 1869. Married unknown Holmes b.1800 - d. 1850. Children: Samuel 1821, James 1823, Jennie 1825, Mary 1827, William 1829. Internet posting has daughter Mary married Wm F. Law but census shows William F. Law is the son. I think this is the same family, however. Looks like dates of children are off. Any suggestions on where these Williams fit into the Holmes family?? Kathy Wilcox
