This is another one of my brickwalls. 7 Aug 1786. (From SC Archives On-line Index) S213190 Vol 13, p 39 Item 02 Description: WILLIAM HOLMES JR., Plat for 232 acres on waters of Mine Creek, Ninety Six District, Surveyed by David Burks. Names Indexed: HOLMES, WILLIAM JR. /Burks, David /Dobey, Nathaniel /Parson (Partin?), Charles/ Locations: Ninety Six District/Mine Creek/Saluda River. Type: Plat/ Deed Bk 12:83. 10 Mar 1794. Charles Partin to WILLIAM HOLMES, both of Edgefield Co for 25 pounds sold 56 acres being part of 200 acres originally granted 11 Feb 1773 unto Charles Partin in Colleton Co when 1st surveyed by Edgefield Co now on Dry Creek a branch of Mine Creek of Little Saluda River adj Arthur Fort, said WILLIAM HOLMES and Robert Pow. Wit: John Drinkard, Philip Ikner. Rec 17 May 1794 (LDS Microfilm #0023875) 10 Jul 1812. Charles Partin's will was filed in Edgefield court, Probate Box 43, Pkg 1819. Named wife, Ann, and daughters MILDRED HOLMES, Agnes Burges, Hannah Raborn, Ann Salter, Phebe Partin, oldest son William, sons Charles and Ezekiel. Will written 26 Sep 1796 (Edgefield Will Book A, p 306). Deed Bk 34:314. 21 Nov 1817. WILLIAM HOLMES Senior of Edgefield for $300 to ANDERSON HOLMES and JESSE HOLMES of Edgefield a certain plantation on tract of land containing 227 acres in district of Edgefield on Cyper Creek and branch of Turkey Creek waters of Savannah River viz, bounded by Robert Starkes, Godfrey Jones, Wm Morgan and Covington Searls, Thomas Ogilvie. Wit: REUBEN HOLMES, Rhydon Hill. Anna Maria Terry gave up right of dower and interest in this estate?? (LDS Microfilm #0023883) William died in 1819 and his estate is in Probate Box 13, Pkg 476, proved 11 Dec 1820. Bond was given by Charles Partin, Anderson Holmes, Mildred Holmes, and ___ Humphreys for $10,000. Buyers at the estate sale held 29 Nov 1819 were the widow, Reubin Holmes, Abigil Homes, Hannah Homes, Cely Homes, Nancy Holmes, Henry Homes, Wm Homes, Charly Homes, Jesse Holmes, Timothy Johnston, John Deshazio, John Pow, Jeremiah Mobley Jr, Charles Partin, Wm Partin, James Ogilvie (LDS Microfilm # 0162244) Deed Bk 38:315. 27 Jul 1821. Charles Partin to JESSE HOLMES for $1000 for 100 acres more or less on Dry Creek of Mine Creek whereon I now live, part of 2 tracts originally granted to my father Charles Partin deceased adj. lands of John Pope, plat by John Pope 7 Dec 1812. Wit: George Nunn, Hiram Rabern. Sarah Partain relinquished dower rights 21 Nov 1821. Rec 3 Dec 1821 (LDS Microfilm # 0023884). Deed Bk 46:125. 13 Dec 1831. ANDERSON HOLMES to James Howerton for $750 sold 262 acres bounded by Junky Creek?, Sheppard Spencer, Edward Walker, B. Still. LOUISA HOLMES renounced dower (LDS Microfilm # 0023887). Deed Bk 46:399. 10 Dec 1833. MILLY HOLMES to Thomas Bartley, $350 for 97 acres being part of two tracts originally granted to Charles Partin. Wit: John Weaver, Wm Kemp. Rec 8 Apr 1834 (Ibid). Deed Bk 46:400. 10 Dec 1833. ANDERSON HOLMES sold to Thomas Bartley 232 acres for $150, land originally granted to WILLIAM HOLMES Jr by Patent 7 Aug 1786 and another grant to Charles Partin 11 Feb 1773 bounded by Robert Pow and HOLMES. Rec 8 Apr 1834 (Ibid). Mildred and many of the children moved to Perry Co, AL in 1830s. DAR Record #299394 Add691 for Virginia Sims, dated 1989, state WILLIAM HOLMES Jr. was in Capt. Benjamin Tutt's Independent Company (original on file in SC Archives). William was born 1758 in SC and died 25 Aug 1819 Edgefield. 2nd wife was Mildred Partin was born 1760 and died 5 Sep 1851 in Perry Co, AL. (transcribed from microfilm at DAR Library, Washington, DC in 1992). Children listed were: --Anderson b.7 Jul 1790 - d. 7 Nov 1867 Perry Co, AL married 1) Sallie Dulaney in 1819; 2) Mary M. Geiger; 3) Louisa Patrick 1823 in SC; 4) Mary Ann Arthur.. --Celia 1787- 1835 m. Robert O. Carver --Abigail 1789 - 1860 m. Abram Pierce --Hannah Bond 1792-1867. Never married. --Willis --William --Henry 1795 - 1865 m. Anna Hill Walker. --Jesse 1796 - 1859 m. Frances Whitlock --Charles 1797 - 1838 unmarried. --Ann (Nancy) 1801 - 1852 m. Robert Mays --Miley 1803 - died young --Samuel 1805 -1859 unmarried --Bethel 1807-1852. WILLIS HOLMES-- Deed Bk 41:370. 1825. W. and W. Holmes in debt for $6000 to Charles M. Thurmond. Willis and William Holmes--this Willis is too young to be son of Amos Holmes! Must be William & Mildred Partin Holmes son? That's all for now. Kathy Wilcox
