The first appearance of Stephen Bell in the Edgefield deed records is this one, in Edgefield Deed Book 34, p. 169: Stephen Bell to John Riley and William Riley, 29 April 1815, Five hundred Dollars, 240 acres on Indian Creek of Little Saluda River and is part of two surveys one of 300 acres granted to Zacheus Corley the other of 181 acres granted t Ann Sanford, which parts was conveyed to Valentine Corley. The 249 acres adj. Watery branch and lands of Samuel Davis, Riley, Levi Gentry, Hendly Webb. Wit Valentine Corley, Hendly Webb. /s/ Stephen (x) Bell. Justice Sampson Pope certifies relinquishment of dower rights by Mary Bell wife of Stephen Bell 9 September 1815, /s/ Mary (x) Bell. Proven April 1817 by Valentine Corley, John Abney J. P. Rec 4 August 1817. This doesn't tell you where he was living in 1800 (could have been Anson Co NC as easily as anyplace else). But at least it documents that his wife was named Mary, as of 1815. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Ozment" <johnozment@hotmail.com> To: <scedgefi@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 10, 2006 7:08 PM Subject: [SCEDGEFI] 1810: Stephen Bell Does someone have further info on Stephen Bell on the 1810 census of Edgefield Co.?
