Clyde Cockrell GENEVA, N.Y. - Clyde Cockrell, 88, of 20 Pleasant St., passed away Sunday, December 3,2006, in his home surrounded by his family. Friends may call at DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home Thursday, December 7, 2006, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Members of Winnek Post #396 American Legion will meet at 7 p.m. at the funeral home for a service. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 8,2006, at the funeral home. Thie Rev. Steve Charles, Pastor of the New Covenant Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions, in his memory, may be made to Ontario Yates Hospice or to the Winnek Post American Legion. Clyde was born November 16, 1918 in Saluda, SC, and resided in Geneva for many years. He was the son of the late Fletcher C. and Beulah Witt Cockrell. He retired from the U.S. Air Force with 24 years of service. He fought in World War II and the Korean War and received many commendations, including five Bronze Service Stars, Bronze Arrowhead and the Purple Heart with Clusters. He later retired from Evans Cosmetics in 1987 and was a member of Winnek Post #396 American Legion. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Ann (Donald) Cockrell Plant of Middleboro, MA, and Carol Ann (Wayne) Cockrell McCoy of Evansville, WY; 19 grandchildren, 26 greatgrandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Wilbur Cockrell of Saluda, SC, Marvin Cockrell of San Pedro, CA, and Robert Cockrell of Columbia, SC; three sisters, Annie Ruth Evans of Florence, SC, Geneva Shuler of Wagner, SC, and Emma Julia Teasley of Greenville, SC; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Lavinia, son, Robert Cockrell, and brothers, Harold and Herman Cockrell.
