My response below the deed to which I am referring: Billie > Deed Bk 34:314. 21 Nov 1817. Anna Maria Terry gave up right of dower > and interest in this estate?? (LDS Microfilm #0023883) ------------------------------- Kathy, Estate of whom? I don't know who the Anderson and Jesse Holmes are. I have two Jesse Holmes, but too late to be the one in the above deed. However, the name Anna Maria Terry caught my eye. I have her in my files as the wife of John Terry, but I don't have his ancestry. Here is an outline of what I have on her and her family. I welcome any corrections and or identifications on her. 1 John Terry b: Bef. 1765 in VA d: Aft. Nov 30, 1816 in Edgefield Dist, SC . +Annah Mariah Minter b: Abt. 1767 in Granville Co., NC m: Bef. 1790 d: Dec 18, 1843 in Edgefield Dist, SC Father: Joseph MINTER Mother: Anna Mariah GOOCH [A. M. Records by Carlee McClendon, p. 45 (361) "Died at her residence in Edgefield Dist., on Tuesday night, Dec. 18, 1843, of a lingering illness, Mrs. anna Maria Terry, in her 76th year. She died a member of the Baptist church. she has left several relatives she born (sic) to society. (The Edgefield Advertiser, Dec. 27, 1843)" So why did she have an "interest in the estate"? Maybe a brother or sister married someone who died without issue, and siblings were due the estate per the law? Or siblings of her husband, most likely, but I don't have who most of them married. I do have 6 siblings for John Terry. Dian Layman and I have worked on these families together, and I am sending this to her as well. Maybe she has more information that might help. --------------------------------------------- I also have a Rhydon Hill. The Rhydon Hill in my files is of the Abraham Hill. Abraham's son Theophilus Hill (1742, NC - ca 1791) left Edgefield and went to FL. because he was a loyalist. His oldest son, Lodowick Hill (1766 - 1822) md. Susannah Grigsby (1771 - bef. 1820) in St. Augustine Parish, FL / Richardsonville, SC (depending on which info. you use) and had Rhydon Hill (b. Feb 24, 1800, SC d? md?) as 5th child of their 9 children. This Rydon born Feb 24, 1800 [The Hills of Wilkes Co. Ga. and Allied Families by M.B. Warren,1972, Heritage Papers, Danielsville, Ga. 30600, (p. 164 from Family Bible Record of Theophilus Hill).] barely seems old enough to have been a witness in 1817???? But he is the earliest one I have. There may be an earlier Rhydon that I don't know about. I have not researched this Rhydon Hill, but another, Rhydon Grigsby Hill (1822 - 1856) was born to another son of Lodowick and Susannah, Theophilus Hill (1790 - 1852) md. Susan Richardson (1801 - 1859). Parent both died in Edgefield Dist. but this Rhydon is definitely too young since he was born after the deed was made. I researched this line because of the connection to my Dean line. A daughter of Lodowick Hill (1766 - 1822) who md. Susannah Grigsby (1771 - bef. 1820), Teresa 'Treacy' Hill (1887 - 1856) md 1) William Lewis (1785); 2) Bryant 'Bryan' Dean (1797 - 1881), son of my ancestor (Proven DAR line) William Dean md Nancy Bryan(t). And Cyper Creek of the deed is a good ways from the Sleepy Creek (off Turkey Creek), Ephraim Branch (where the Dean cem. is located and Trecy Hill is buried with the Dean family. Now did any of this do any good. I still cannot answer the original question.... Why did Anna Mariah Terry sign a dower and relinquish her interest in the estate. Estate of whom? Billie Jones
