Hi Billie, Regarding your question as to why Annamariah Terry relinquished dower in the deed below, the following deed may provide a clue: Edgefield DB 33, p. 126: Chesley B. Cochran to John Terry Senr, Deed, 30 November 1816, Fifty Dollars, 449 acres on Cyper Creek of Turkey Creek adj land surveyed by Godfrey Jones, and lands of Robert Stokes, William Morgan, Covington Searles, Thomas Ogilvie. Wit Jesse Waldrom, Tandy M Key. /s/ Chesley B Cockran. Proven 1 July 1816 by Jesse Waldrom; John Cheatham JP. Rec 1 July 1816. I have an abstract of the deed from William Holmes Sr. to Anderson and Jesse Holmes, and it states that Anna Mariah Terry was the widow of John Terry, decd. when she relinquished dower. It seems possible that John Terry owned the land and part of it was sold to William Holmes. (I could not find a deed abstract in which John Terry sold this land prior to his death in 1817.) Anna Mariah had not relinquished dower and so it was done in 1817 when William Holmes sold the land.
