Marshall's Branch was a tributary of Horns Creek from the northeast. An original landowner on it was Daniel Marshall, first minister of Horns Creek Baptist Church. Samuel Marsh, minister of the same church in the early 1800's, was also a landowner in that area, on nearby Beaverdam Creek to its north. The Ge Lee Corley Hendrix map of Edgefield shows a creek listed as "Tobler's Creek" in the only location for a tributary of Horns from the northeast. None of the Toblers ever lived near there, but it's the particular waterway on which Horns Creek Baptist Church was built. The single reference to a "Tobler's Creek" in the deed books is an obvious mis-transcription for Nobles Creek, since each landowner mentioned was one who lived on Nobles/Horns Creek. Reference is Deed Book 2, pp. 14-15, sale of land originally granted in 1755 to Joseph Nobles (from whence the first name of the creek), described as a "branch of Stevens Creek called Toblers now Horns Creek." Marshall's 1768 plat does not identify the name of the creek that got his name, but the plat was adjacent to lands of Samuel Walker and Allen Addison, both of whom owned land only on Horns Creek, at that time.
