According to the cemetery records that I have, Eliza Dean Neal is buried in the Lott cem., but HC Ouzts calls the cem. where James Neal is buried the Neal-Mobley Cem, Saluda. He is the one who identifies Amanda Malvina Neal as a daughter of James Neal. I don't have her records any where else and have never worked on the Neal family with Probate or deed records. However the census records does show a female Amanda as the oldest "child" in the family in 1850. I don't have Amanda Malvina Neal as a daughter for James Neal. I have Elizabeth Neal Lott as the oldest daughter. I also have in my files, James Neal being buried in the Lott cemetery. Is that not right? You have James buried in Neal-Mobley Cem, Saluda. He and his oldest daughter are buried in the Neal - Mobley Family Cem, Saluda Co, SC Neal, James [Alexander] [1815] Jan 1 1883 Neal, Amanda Malvina 1837 1856 He married Eliza Dean who is buried with a daughter in the Lott Family Cemetery, Hwy 23, Johnston, Edgefield Co, SC Eliza Dean Hill is the d/o Bryant Dean and Treacy Hill Dean. Treacy is the d/o Lodowich Hill who married Susannah Grigsby. March 1929 The use of died before March 19, 1929 comes from the fact that they are NOT mentioned in probate records of Margaret Dean Holloway, sister of Bryant Dean, father of Eliza in her AL probate records. More on that later. The naming pattern of the family certainly points to the Bryant Dean and Trecy Hill families as follows: According to my research of census records, Bryant and Treacy Hill Dean has two unknown children, a son and a daughter, listed in the 1830 Edgefield co census: p. 214 with parents and the 1840 Edgefield Co. SC Census, born between 1815 - 1820. In researching the Lott families, I came upon death cert. that listed James Neal and Eliza Dean as parents to a spouse of a LOTT. The date of birth for the Eliza Dean listed with James Neal in the census records puts her date of birth in that range. We MAY have found the missing daughter. Death certificates of some of their children specifically call their mother Eliza Dean and their father James Neal. Of course, as true researchers, this is not yet proof! But notice the names of the following partial list of James & Eliza Dean Neal's children: ..... 2 William NEAL b: Abt. 1845 [Bryant's father was William] ..... 2 Treacy NEAL b: Abt. 1848 [Bryant's wife was Treacy] ..... 2 James NEAL b: Abt. 1852 [Treacy Hill Dean had brother James] ..... 2 Lod NEAL b: Abt. 1854 [Bryant's father-in-law was Lodowick Hill m. Susannah Grigsby] ..... 2 Susan NEAL b: Abt. 1857 [possibly a Susannah for Susannah Grigsby] VERIFIED: May, 2003: On April 30, 2003, I received the Final Settlement records of Margaret Dean Holloway, Chambers Co, AL, d. 1887 (looked up for me by Jacky Stancil). Those records contain the following named Eliza Neal as a legatee: "Eliza Neal, over 21 years old, resides in SC, P.O. Fruit Hill, Edgefield Co, SC....... the above named (is a living child) of Bryant Dean who was a brother of the testatrix." She is listed as the mother of Virginia Neal Lott in her death Certificate, 1920 Edgefield Co, SC # 9437. Tombstone in the Lott Family Cemetery, Hwy 23, Johnston, Edgefield Co, SC, states: "Our Mother. Mrs. Eliza Neal, wife of Mr. James Neal, born June 1818, died Jan 1880.
