OK, those of you who work on the Riddles... I have found an interesting bit of data in a Probate record that leads me to believe that the wife of Lewis Youngblood of the following family was probably Mary RIDDLE. Looking for confirmation or proof that my conclusions are in error. This family was in the Old Edgefield Dist, but some of the Riddle connections also go into Newberry as well. [Then there is a VA. line with many of the same names.] Here is what I have on Lewis Youngblood: Descendants of Lewis Youngblood (parents unknown) [I don't believe him to be the Lewis son of Peter and Susannah Starke Youngblood.] Generation No. 1 1. LEWIS1 YOUNGBLOOD(1) died Bet. February - March 1822 in Edgefield Co, SC. He married MARY(1). She died Abt. 1836. This week I have a few hours between appointment and looked thru part of a film that is in a list for me to check out (if I should live so long to get to all of them) Found this one, that leads me to believe that it is very possible that the wife Mary named in the above Probate info, was formerly Mary RIDDLE, daughter of Thomas & Catherine Riddle. Estate of Thomas Riddle [Edgefield Co. Probate Box 44- Pkg1843, April 17, 1812 Catherine Riddle wife Adm. William Blackburn Lots of Riddles named. Relationship give only for daughter Eleanor Riddle. Riddles listed in purchase or receiving small payments: Catherine, Jesse, James, John J. Others listed in the accounting of payments: Lewis Youngblood in full same (he received the same amoung as did James, who seems to have possible have been a son. James Riddle recd in full. Eleanor Riddle in full Charles Walls in full, and same as Charles Oliver, however their amount was only $15 vs the ca 30 received by others. Would two daughters get less and these their two husbands, or two granddaughters married and each receiving 1/2 of their parents' portion. A William Riddle bought a table, but in another place Catherine calls him a friend who she does NOT want to administer her husband's estate in her stead. It just caught me eye with the Lewis Youngblood, and the Riddles of Edgefield co. have some connection, altho I don't know how, to my Coursey line. It is possible it was only a working relationship, as one was an overseer for One of the Riddles, whose name escapes me right now. And the Riddle/Powell/Sheppard familes connect and contain one Lewis Coursey who I believe was the brother of Capt. James Coursey, John and William Coursey or the early Rev. Days in SC. Hope this helps someone, and if anyone has further info, I am curious to know if I am on the right track in the way I interpreted the info. Billie Jones Camden, SC [email protected]
