Dear Dean & other Partin researchers: I have this in my notes: Query was sent to the <[email protected]> list by Dean OWEN <[email protected]> about Phobie (Duckie) PARTIN ( born @1807 in Edgefield, SC and died 1869 in Conecuh Co, AL.) who married William (P?) SALTER (born @1800 in Georgia and died 1856 in Conecuh Co, Al.). I sent him the info. I had on Charles Partin and his children, which I now believe contains an error, so I need to send the question and probable error that seems to be in the info. based on a closer look at the info. FACT: Edgefield Co. Probate, Will of Charles Parten, /w/ 6 Sept 1796, /r/ in Will Book 'A, page 306-307, July 20, 1812 [Box 43, pkg 1819], Proven by Sam'l Satcher 5th June, 1812 Recorded July 29, 1813 states that Charles Partin had a daughter Phoebe. Other info. stated that Phoebe married William Partin Salter. Upon studying the info., I don't think this Phoebe who married William P. Salter can possibly be the daughter of Charles Partin and Ann [possible Baggett]. Reasons: 1. The Phoebe listed as a daughter of Charles would be the sister of Nancy Partin Salter, mother of William Partin Salter. That would mean that William married his aunt! 2. Phoebe who married William P. Salter was born in 1807, and the age difference between Phoebe and the youngest child I have for Charles and Ann would be 22 years. Not an impossibility, as I am 24 years older than my brother, but Charles would have been near the age of 75. Also not impossible, as Strom Thurmond proved. However, if Ann is even close to his same age, this does not sound possible at all. Upon sharing the problem with another Partin researcher. Faye Urbantke, she stated: "I had just received some information on Phoebe "Duckie" Partin that married William Partin Salter. It states that Phoebe "Duckie" Partin was the daughter of William and Sarah C. Partin, that would make them first cousins. Who knows, I can't pin it down that Charles Jones Partin was their son. The information that I received said children of Wiliam Partin and wife Sarah C. are, Kindred Allison, Phoebe "Duckie", Charles Jones Bud C, and Enoch." [ Faye, is there suppose to be a comma between Charles Jones and Bud C. in the list of children above?] Will of Charles Parten, /w/ 6 Sept 1796, /r/ in Will Book 'A, page 306-307, July 20, 1812 [Box 43, pkg 1819], Proven by Sam'l Satcher 5th June, 1812 Recorded July 29, 1813. I give to my oldest son William Partin 440 acres of land lying on Rocky Creek in the County Aforesaid. This William is the probable father of Phoebe Duckie Partin m. William Partin Salter. The child Phoebe, possible daughter of William and Sarah C. Partin, then would be a 1st cousin to William Partin Salter, and we find that happened quite often in the rural south. And William possibly named his daugher after his sister Phoebe Partin, daughter of Chalres named in the will. Comments and proofs welcome. Billie Jones Camden, SC [email protected]
