I have recently discovered my WILLIAM HOLMES was married first to a daughter of William Cox. I am trying to learn more about this WILLIAM COX. WILLIAM & TABITHA had 1 child: WYATT COX HOLMES b: 30 Aug 1813 in Edgefield Co, SC d: 1884 in Holmes Co, MS Married Barbary Ann Mabry b: 17 May 1814 in Abbeville District, SC d: 02 Jun 1859 in Holmes Co, MS b: Spring Hill Cemetery, Holmes Co, MS. She was dau. of Ruben L. Mabry and Mary Elizabeth Tompkns of Edgefield/Abbeville, SC. *2nd Wife of Wyatt Cox HOLMES: Caroline P. b: Bet. 1825 - 1827 in probably Edgefield Co, SC d: Aft. 1880. She was married 1st) to James P. Thurmond 9 Feb 1820. Edgefield Deed Book 41:273. "Know all men by these presents that I, WILLIAM COX of Edgefield District in the State of South Carolina, in consideration of the love and affection which I have to my grand child WYAT HOLMES Son of my beloved Daughter TABITHA HOLMES Dec'd. and also in consideration of the sum of twenty dollars to me ___ ___by Richard Hardy of the same State and District have Given, Granted, Bargained Sold released and confirmed by those presents do Give Grant Bargain, Sell release and confirm ____ unto the said WYATT HOLMES all that parcel or tract of land containing fifty acres more or less. . .Situate in Edgefield District ___ East Side of Stephens Creek being that part of a tract of one hundred acres. . . . The gift of deed also mentions Wyatt was to receive 'seven negroes". Further on, the other children of William Cox are mentioned "Sarah Cox and Delilah Cartledge" A Richard Hardy and Thomas Price were designated as guardians and trustees for Wyatt. On 13 DEC 1823, William Cox made a change to the aforementioned deed: "I do hereby substitute John Tompkins in the stead of Thomas Price Decd. as Trustee for the purposes of the _____ (This deed abstract was sent to me by another reseacher--I don't have the full deed). 2.
