>From The State, Coluumbia, SC, Feb 5, 2007 BATESBURG - Helen Matthews, 91, passed away Sunday, February 4, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Travis Park Cemetery with Rev. Kevin Hinton officiating. Pallbearers will be Ansel Trotter, Mike Rivers, Keith, Dewey, Alton and Billy Gibson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bryson Cockrell, Bernard Trotter, J.W. Matthews, Wyman Matthews and Chuck Miller. Mrs. Matthews was born in Saluda, daughter of the late Luther and Tura Nichols Gibson. She was married to the late J.V. Matthews and was a homemaker. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Tura Ann Abney and husband, Rusty, of Batesburg; brother and sisters-in-law, Hoyt Gibson and wife, Dot, of Saluda; Ruby Lee Gibson and Lois Matthews, both of Saluda; granddaughter, Kayla Ann Abney; special caregiver, Jane Griggs; number of nieces and nephews; predeceased by son, John Morris Matthews; brothers, Hamp, Otis, Ira, Harvey and Edgar Gibson. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, February 5, at Milton Shealy Funeral Home, other times at her residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Hospice Care of S.C. or West Creek Baptist Church.
