Does any one know what units was from Edgefield during the civil war?Not much infomation on Edgefeild web site. Debra Maddox Wilson Greenback,Tn
One of the military units raised from Edgefield District during the Civil War seems to have been the 14th SC Inf. I have gleaned this fact over the years from reading the Quill, the Edgefield Gen. Soc. newsletters. However, it seems that at least most of the names in Company "H" 14th SC Infantry were from Barnwell District. My double great, great grandfather, Richard I. Manning (called Manning) served in Company H 14th SC Inf. All of his records show Barnwell area where the Isaac Toole had settled in the Upper Three Runs area before the Revolutionary War. This is now in the Savannah River Project area. The Civil War muster rolls and casualty lists are included in John A. Chapman, History of Edgefield County from the Earliest Settlements to 1897. While individual Edgefield companies were attached to a large number of SC Regiments, the majority of Edgefield men enlisted in the Seventh and Nineteenth Regiments of SC Volunteers. ----- Original Message ----- From: <JWi4194718@aol.com> To: <SCEDGEFI-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, October 02, 2006 6:52 PM Subject: [SCEDGEFI] Military Units Does any one know what units was from Edgefield during the civil war?Not much infomation on Edgefeild web site.
