Ouzts Subject: [SCGREENW] Obits: Ruth Quarles Hair and Dorothy Long Hall The following were in the State Paper, Columbia, SC Oct 13, 1006 issue: GREENWOOD - Ruth Quarles Hair, 82, formerly of Greenwood, widow of Olga Vernon Hair, died October 11,2006, in Laurel Crest Retirement Center in Columbia. Born in Edgefield, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Fannie Strom Quarles. Mrs. Hair was a graduate of Lander College where she was the recipient of the Thayer Medal for Highest Average Scholarship. She retired as a middle school teacher from Greenwood School District #50. An active member of First Baptist Church, she was also a former president of the Ruth Class and served as a teacher in the children's department. As a volunteer with Self Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, she was recognized for more than 3000 hours of volunteer service. Mrs. Hair was a former member of Greenwood Woman's Club and Lander Alumni Association. Surviving are two daughters, Miriam Hair and Nancy Lambert, and son-in-law, Lanny Lambert, all of Columbia; three grandchildren, Grayson, Bryant and Caroline Lambert; two sisters, Mrs. R. Earl Coleman of Pacolet and Martha Pearl Quarles of Edgefield. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Greenwood with Rev. Tony Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. The body is at Blyth Funeral Home and will be placed in the church at 10 Saturday morning. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church from 6 to 7:30 Friday evening. The State Paper, Oct 13, 2006 LEESVILLE - Services for Dorothy Long Hall, 73, will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Mark Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bill Ebener officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Historic B-L Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church Building Fund, 3178 Denny Hwy., Prosperity, SC 29127. Mrs. Hall died Wednesday, October 11, 2006. Born in Saluda Co., she was a daughter of the late Ansel and Lucille Derrick Long. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, the Church Council, the Cemetery Committee, Memorial Fund Treasurer, Keenagers Member and Treasurer. She was a member of Thrivent and the Lexington Co. Retired Teachers Assoc. serving as treasurer. She retired from Lexington Co. School District 3, was the Beta Club Sponsor, and was an instructor at Piedmont Tech. College, teaching in Saluda and Newberry. Surviving are her daughters, Wanda Collins of Chester and Janelle Llewellyn of Lake Wylie; brother, Aubrey Long; grandchildren, Charles and Holly Hall, Miriam and Brad Llewellyn, Brenda Hernandez, Elizabeth, Jessica, Leah, and Will Collins; four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Hall and son, Ronald Hall.
