    1. [SCEDGEFI] Shadrach Holmes
    2. hmwall
    3. Kathy, your Shadrach Holmes is intriguing. I have been stuck on my James Shadrach Holmes for some time. Census, and family records indicate he was b. ~1788 in NC but apparently sprang to life without benefit of parents. He married, ~1810 to Keziah Cox of both Augusta GA and Edgefield. Keziah's parents were Joseph Cox and Honor Wood, Honor's parents were Isaac Wood and Mary Wolecon, Mary the daughter of Daniel Wolecon/Wallicon of Augusta and Edgefield. Daniel Wolecon was a member of the British Militia and was in the area as early as 1762; these families are well documented on both sides of the river, at least for the early generations. Isaac Wood owned quite a bit of land in the Beech Island area. Then James Shadrach Holmes, of unknown parentage, marries Keziah Cox. By 1820 they were in Conecuh County AL and shortly after 1840 were in Rankin County MS where both James Shadrach Holmes and wife Keziah died. I have looked at the various Holmes families, many including the name Shadrach, or Shade, but nothing has led me to follow any particular family. I have a great deal of information on this family downward but would love to place James Shadrach Holmes with parents. Helen Wall

    3. Dear List, I have been hard at work trying to figure out the different Holmes lines in Edgefield. I have typed up all my deeds and census records and tried grouping names by neighbors and creeks, etc. I have several questions for list members. Here is my first post about a Holmes that I can't place-- Shadrack Holmes appears in Edgefield records 1795-1806 and seems to be connected to Jonas and Edward Holmes. Jonas Holmes and his 2nd wife Elizabeth Howell had a son "Shadrack" born 10 Apr 1809. Deed Bk 14:351+. 22 May 1795. Wit: Joseph Jemison, Wm King. Plat shows Blue Branch, Land Run, turkey Creek, and adjoining land owners. FEREBY HOMES wife of Shadrack released dower rights 7 Nov 1806. Rec 24 Mar 1807 (Ibid.) This 1806 deed is the last I can find Shadrack and Fereby Holmes mentioned in Edgefield. I find a Shadrack Holmes married to a Phereby Gardner in North Carolina: Bertie County NC Court Minutes, 1772-1780, Book 4, May Ct. 1780, p 114. Ordered Ephraim Nuton to be bound to SHADRICK HOLMES to learn trade of a shoemaker. Bertie Co, NC Wills 1781-1797, pp 98-100. James Gardner, written 12 Sep 1790, proved Nov 1790 names his daughter PHEREBY HOLMES and her husband SHADRACK HOLMES. They get the plantation that they are living on. From the 2 records of Bertie Co, NC, Shadrack's birth would be about 1760-1770. Does anyone know anything about this Shadrack Holmes? Is the Bertie County, NC Shadrack the same as the Edgefield man? Where did they go? Is he the Shadrack that appears later in Elbert Co, GA? Kathy Wilcox (descendant of Jonas Holmes and Pleasant Thurmond)

Dec 10 1879 - Sep 26 1930 RE: Father of Bessie Ouzts.... I checked several in the 1900 and only found one, a James T. Ouzts with a daughter Bessie. And the wife was Lula, and the date of birth given for daughter Bessie A. was 5/1884 which is close for census records, even in the 1900 census. I have that Bessie A. Ouzts Ethridge is the daughter of James Talbert Ouzts and Lula McManus from the work of HC Ouzts. I welcome any comments or proofs otherwise. Death cert. seems to be wrong, but whey did her husband not know his name. They were married 5 years before her father died??? ------------------------------------------------------- This person is listed as A. A. Ethridge in the Death Index. [Didn't get to his yet] Ida is buried as follows: Rearden, Evelyn C. Jan 6 1894 - Dec 8 1907 Rearden, Winnifred Nov 4 1903 - Jul 19 1935 *Rearden, Ida POWELL Mar 11 1869 - May 25 1943 Rearden, John R. Apr 21 1868 - Aug 25 1935 I looked up the above Ida in the Death cert. and just have not gotten it typed up. She is the dau. of James Powell, Aiken Co and (Cloven) Powell, Aiken Co. [Doesn't help when the death cert. is unreadable or filled out incompletely. However, note the Ida B. Powell listed below listed in another plot: ***Powell, Herbert W. Jun 17 1857 Apr 12 1929 ***Powell, Ida YONN Dec 9 1860 Mar 11 1941 **Faulkner, Melzer O.. 1898 1949 Powell, William G. 1855 1928 *Powell, Ida B. 1869 1943 note that the two Ida's have same birth year and death year????? Did she marry William G. Powell who d. in 1928 then marry John Rearden and they placed a marker at both locations??? Then there is Ida Ouzts who married Elijah Melvin Faulkner and had a son Melzer Odell Faulker with the dates **1898 - 1949. (see above) He married a Grace Powell. According to info. just received from Larry Scott, she was the daughter of the ***Herbert W. and ***Ida Youn Powell also listed above. On top of that, Melzer O. Faulkner had a sister Grace Lucille Powell. Folks, I am about to pull my hair out. Any help would be appreciated on proof of what families these folks belonged to. Larry, I am working with your file and it is helping. Just want to get the other Idas straight. Thanks for any help. Billie Jones Camden, SC tjones@camden.net
