    3. Because the Yonce family married into my Rauton line and my Coursey line, and into the Derrick line which also connects to my Rautons, and my mother remembered visiting her grandparents and the Yonces being around, I started looking up the Death Certficates of some of the various Yonces to see if I could find connections. 1. [SCEDGEFI] HOLMES, BURRIS, and COLLINS
    2. Kathy Wilcox
    3. ELIZABETH BURRIS/BURRESS, daughter of John Burris, married EDWARD HOLMES, son of the WILLIAM HOLMES who died 1790 in Edgefield. She is named in her father's will, John Burress, Will Bk C, p 47. Her brother, Martin Burress, names his nephews, John B. and Martin Holmes, in his will written 1844 and recorded 23 Mar 1849 (Edgefield Co, SC Will Book D, pp 352-353). >From Edgefield Court Records we know that ELIZABETH BURRIS HOLMES married JAMES A. COLLINS after EDWARD HOLMES died. Equity Roll 421, Docket #51, filed 7 May 1831. "Bill for Account & Relief". Edward Holmes' wife, Elizabeth, remarried James Collins by 1831. She handled the estate up to 1 Jan 1830. She and husband James Collins want court to settle estate and pay heirs and appt. guardian for minors--John, William, Edward, and Martin. Daughter, Mary, had married Benjamin Roper. 7 June 1831 court ordered land be sold adj John Glanton and others containing 50 acres. Equity Rolls 423, 499, 975, 1351, 1601, 1820, 1828, 2141 contain more of the settlement of the estate. Edward's widow, Elizabeth Burriss remarries to James Collins by 1831. (He was the father of Lewis Colllins, who marries Edward and Elizabeth's daughter, Annie). On 5 Nov 1831 a deed from Wyatt Homes to James Collins, in right of his wife, for negroes as discharge and receipt in administration of Edward Homes, deceased (Deed Bk DDD:556). Many researchers list ELIZABETH BURRIS as the mother of all of EDWARD HOLMES' children. But, I am pretty sure EDWARD HOLMES was married and had son, WYATT HOLMES b. 1791--before he marrried ELIZABETH BURRIS. >From "Edgefield County, SC Family Cemeteries & Death Notices from The SC Baptist Newspaper" published by OEDGS, July 2003, page 130. HOLMES CEMETERY # 5 "Collins, Mrs. E. B (Apr 1786) D 23 Oct 1863 Age 77 years and 6 months (Elizabeth Collins, w/o James Collins. She was last married to Edward Holmes & was the stepmother of Col. Wyatt Holmes of Holmes Cemetery # 4. Refs: Will of Edward Holmes, Equity #499, and ECDN of John B. Holmes 10 Nov 1886)." Edgefield Census records seem to back up her birthdate. In the 1850 census page 150 she is listed as age 60 (b. 1790). In 1860 census she is listed as age 74 (b. 1786) CENSUS: 1850 Edgefield Co, SC DIVISION: The District REEL NO: M432-852 P. 150B, hh#2293/2300 James Collins 50 M Farmer 8,000, SC Elizabeth Collins 60 F VA CENSUS: 1960 Edgefield Co, SC, Duttonville, p. 69, hh#1058/1045 J. A. Collins, 59 M Farming KY Betsy Collins 74 F VA Lewis Holmes 23 M Farming, SC By these dates, ELIZABETH BURRIS was only 5 years older than her son WYATT HOLMES. So, she has to be a stepmother and a 2nd wife of Edward. My question to the list is "who is EDWARD HOLMES' first wife?" Kathy Wilcox

    1. [SCEDGEFI] David Berry and other David Berry Families in Early Census Records
    2. Ava H. Nackman
    3. Hello, I am brand new to this list and have two basic questions: Does anyone know anything about the David Berry found on the Edgefield Co, SC Census in 1800 and 1810? Does anyone have any information about any of the other Berry individuals in Edgefield at that time that might be relevant to my search for David? My David ended up in GA, definitely by 1826. Most probably he arrived there sometime between 1810 and 1820. David was born in the 1770-1780 timeframe in SC. His wife was named Martha and his children (at least those that I know of) were Elizabeth Charlotte, Martha, Julia M., Mary, Harriet Caroline, and John V.. He is a perfect fit for the David and his family found in 1800 and 1810 in the Edgefield Co, SC Censuses. Others near him on these censuses include, in 1810: Hannah Berry (found adjacent to David with two 26-45 year old men in her household), Elizabeth, Crawford, and Dean (all on the same page as David), Joseph and Thomas (one page away). In 1800: Daniel and Joseph (a couple of pages from David). I would be most appreciative of any information or suggestions anyone may have about David or sorting these individuals. Many thanks, Ava Nackman

    2. Is any one on this list working on the Fudge Family that was in Edgefield? I am particularly interested in Jacob Fudge, Jr. who married to Catherine May. I am trying to determine/document if the Jacob FUDGE who was a son of Jacob (Jr) and Catherine May is the same Jacob whose descendants appear in Davidson County Tennessee records. If anyone can help me with this or can share with me on this line, I would love to hear from them. I am also interested in Repentance Townsend and Henry Dooley with whom there seem to be interactions. Thank you, Vivian E. Hull (substitute at with @ sign in email address) vhullataol.com

    1. [SCEDGEFI] Daniel A. Jackson b. 1849 - confusion with census records and wives?
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. I was checking out some census data, and noted that in 1900 Daniel A. Jackson b. 1848 who married Matilda was living in a different hh than Matilda, and she lists herself as a widow. Either Matilda is attached to the wrong person, or there is some strange activity going on with the family. Here is what i put into Daniel's notes: ------------------------------------------------ Daniel A. Jackson, age 9, is found living with his parents, Daniel Jackson (da 1815) & Elizabeth 'Betsy' Fulmer(ca 1813) [1860 Edisto Mills area of Edgefield Co, SC] Larry Scott identifies him as older with the following info. - Daniel A. "Dannie" Jackson, Jr., born 10 Aug 1849 in SC; died 23 Mar 1923. This date worked better with the census dates and when I found his cem. listing at Philippi Baptist church, EC, SC. Dates on his death cert. are a little off, but I may have missed the day of death in my transcription. Accumulating Cemsus records raised questions about his marriage??? CENSUS 1870 Edgefield Co. One Matilda Jackson is buried with Mahlon Jackson in the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Cem, Aiken Co, SC just over the Aiken Co. line south of Johnston, Edgefield Co, SC. I am assuming that she is his mother and placed the dates accordingly. It is possible that Daniel married the above Frances after Matilda's death and this is that family.. 3. The following was in todays State Paper, Columbia, SC [Feb. 10, 2007] Margaret Whitlock Quarles NORTH AUGUSTA - Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Whitlock Quarles, 96, of North Augusta, SC, who died February 8,2007, will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from Fairview Presbyterian Church. Dr. Robert F. Fuller Jr. and Rev. Masaki Chiba officiating. Interment in Ebenezer Cemetery, Trenton, SC. Mrs. Quarles was a native of Trenton, SC, a former resident of Batesburg and Columbia, having made North Augusta her recent home. She was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church and a former member of Shandon Baptist Church of Columbia. Mrs. Quarles had retired from Tapp's Department Store and was a former volunteer at the Baptist Hospital with 30 years of service. She was the mother of the late Joan Quarles Warlick and grandmother of the late Billy Warlick. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Skip Jones, North Augusta; her son-in-law, Bill Warlick, Chapin; three grandchildren, Rian True, Donna Guess and Beverly Eslick; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Ernest Posey, Bill Gingrey, Dr. J. William Thurmond, Bill Jacobsen, Bill Price and William T.McKettrick. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this Saturday afternoon from 3 to 5. Memorials may be made to the Fairview Presbyterian Church Building Fund or Fairview Volunteers in Missions, 1101 Carolina Avenue, North Augusta, SC. Stephen D. Posey Funeral Home of North Augusta in charge of arrangements (803-278-1181). Visit the registry online at wwwposeyfuneralhome.com ---------------------------- I looked in the Ebenezer Cem. Records, and there are quite a few Whitlocks. Only two Quarles plots, so I don't know who she married or who her parents were. Born in 1911, she should be in the 1920 census with some family, but my Heritage Quest only shows Heads of HH, so I would have to go thru all of them to find her. Maybe someone with ancestry can post her parents. And if someone knows the father of her children, please post. Billie Jones tjones@camden.net

I know I am jumping to conclusions that the two Marys might be the same, since the name Mary is certainly not unusual enough to narrow down the list, but I only have two Mary Floyds in my files and this on is the only ones whose date of birth would possibly work. And I'd like to connect the two families if it is correct. Billie Jones Camden, SC tjones@camden.net

    1. [SCEDGEFI] Some Mayson Death Cert. & conflicts
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. This group of death certificates is full of conflicts regarding the Mayson relationships. Hope someone knows this family and can sort it out with real proof. Billie Jones Camden, SC tjones@camden.net ---------------------------------- 1934 - Death Cert. #17654, Greenwood Co, SC Mrs. Martha Levania Mayson Female, White, widowed b. August 23, 1850, SC father: George Siebert, SC mother: Adeline Alaster Siebert, SC d. Nov 6, 1934, Greenwood, Greenwood Co, SC cause: angina Pectoris; cardio vascular renal; fractured hip, Oct 28 in fall. informant: Mrs. Robert Cartledge, Greenwood, SC buried: Mt. Vernon [Methodist Church, McCormick Co, SC] UT: Blyths Services, Greenwood, SC I believe she married James Harrison Mayson, son of George Conway Mayson b. ca 1804 and either Susan Harrison Mayson or Susan Siebert Mayson (who I believe is the sister of Martha) ***See conflicts below: ---------------------------------------------- This seems to be her sister: Note difference in spelling of mothers name. It is more likely Lassiter. 1939 - Death Cert. #18022, McCormick Co, SC Mrs. Susan ( ) Mayson Female, White, widow b. June 28, 1846, SC father: George Siebert, SC mother: Adeline Lassiter, SC d. Dec. 29, 1939, McCormick, Bordeau twp, McCormick Co, SC cause: influenza; lobal pneumonia; uremia informant: C. W. (P___al), McCormick, SC buried: McCormick UT: J. S. Strom, McCormick, SC ***REGARDING this Susan Mayson. The following two death certificates are for the same person. However, there are important differences including the location of death, the location of birth for father [1850 census puts both born in SC], and the MAIDEN NAME of the mother. 1919 - Death Cert. #16786, Greenwood Co, SC John C. Mayson Male, White, married, Farmer b. 1842, Callison, SC father: George C. Mayson, Scotland mother: Susan HARRISON, Callison, SC d. Sept 4, 1919, Greenwood Co, SC cause: cancer of the bowel informant: G. R. Mayson, Callison, SC buried: Mt. Vernon [Methodist church, McCormick, McCormick Co, SC] UT: H. B. Ellis, Greenwood, SC SAME PERSON - revised DC. 1919 - Death Cert. #17523, McCormick Co, SC John Calhoun Mayson Male, White, married, Farmer b. Jan 1847, SC [NOTE different date is given here] father: George Conley Mayson, SC mother: Susan E. SIEBERT, SC [NOTE: different maiden name] d. Sept 4, 1919, Greenwood twp, McCormick Co, SC [Different location of death] cause: stomach trouble informant: (blank) buried: Mt.Vernon [Methodist church, McCormick, McCormick Co, SC] UT: H. B. Ellis, Greenwood, SC Note the maiden name of the mother is different in the two DCs. The death cert. of the youngest brother of John Calhoun Mayson, lists Susan Harrision, which make me wonder if there were two marriages, and some of the children belong to Susan Siebert and some to Susan Harrison, or what????? 1944 - Death Cert. # 14212, Edgefield Co, SC William Wallace Mayson, Sr. Male, white, widowed b. May 12, 1858, SC father: Conway Mayson, SC mother: Susan Harrison, SC d. Dec. 6, 1944, Talbert twp, Edgefield Co, SC cause: apoplexy; ____? informant: W. W. Mayson, Jr., McCormick, SC buried: Mt. Vernon UT: J. S. Strom, McCormick Co, SC
