    3. I have copied the following census while working on the Butlers, Powells, and Reardens lately. CENSUS: 1920 Aiken Co, SC, Graniteville PO, Gregg twp, p. 99 hh#83/83 John Powell, head, 58 M W (oiler) at cotton mill, SC SC SC Belle Powell, wife, 48 F W ___ at cotton mill, SC SC SC Joseph Powell, son, 22 M W doffer at cotton mill, SC SC SC Susan Rearden, mother-in-law, 78 F W , SC SC SC Corneila Rearden, aunt, 66 F W, SC SC SC Susan Rearden had a daughter named Isabelle whose dates in census work with the one above. And she is of an age to be the mother of Joseph Powell. But all other info. I have found conflicts with that, and I don't know if I have two Belle's or if this John Powell married twice, and Joseph is the son of first wife. Isabelle is still with her mother in the following census, SINGLE, so she cannot be the mother of Joseph. CENSUS: 1910 Aiken Co, Gregg twp, p. 119B (or 109B) can't read my own writing. 1. [SCEDGEFI] Abney and Rutherford in SC
    2. Hi Billie, I am wondering if you have any info on James Rutherford (c.1736- Dec 1797), who married Drucilla Brooks. They lived in Edgefield, and I have a copy of his Will and only one page of his estate inventory. We know there are more pages, but so far I haven't been able to chase them down. I am trying to prove to DAR that James Rutherford's daughter, Dorothy, married my Paul Collins Abney. I believe DAR records are incorrect, because they have Dorothy married to a Joseph Griffith Abney, and there is no proof of this whatsoever that I can find. Actually, I don't think there was ever a Joseph Griffith Abney. There was a Joseph Abney, but he died in GA unmarried, and his brothers, Paul and Nathaniel inherited Joseph's estate. This Joseph Griffith Abeny is published in several Abney and Rutherford books, but I truly think it is incorrect. I am looking for any information that would link James Rutherford to Paul Collins Abney, and his wife, Dorothy Rutherford Abney. DAR will not accept the Will of James Rutherford as proof that Paul married Dorothy Rutherford, because it does not distingusih which Abney married Dorothy. She is only named as Dorothy Abney in James' Will. I am thinking there would be some land dlocuments which might link Paul Abney with James Rutherford. I have been disappointed every time I have looked for a marriage record in the 1700s in SC. Anyway, do you have access to any of these records, and what is your best advise on my dilemma. Thanks so much for reading this, and I am looking forward to hearing from you. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Davine Roberts Jacksonville, FL

    1. [SCEDGEFI] HOBBY surname
    2. Melissa Hogan
    3. Is anyone familiar with a family of this surname in the Barnwell area in the 1860's? I have a document (filed in Autauga Co, AL) that is between James W. CHERRY (brother of my Jesse) and Sarah Ann HOBBY. I have "looked" in all the usual places and cannot find a HOBBY family in the Barnwell area - the document does indicate that she is "Sarah Ann Hobby of Barnwell District." 1. [SCEDGEFI] Family of Wade Franklin - Death Certs and question about wife/wives
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. Here are two Franklin Death Cert. that indicate that Wade Franklin b. Jun 12, 1853 was either married twice or his wife's name is Harriett A. Belzie Salome. I have seen the name Harriett SLOAN for her name and wonder if the Salome in the DC of her son was her last name rather than a middle name. Proof of the marriage or marriages of Wade Franklin would be much appreciated. Children of Wade and Belzie per death certificates that I have found thus far. 1949 - Death Cert. #1497, Edgefield Co, SC William Lucius Franklin Male, White, widow, Farmer b. Jun 12 1853 Oct 19 1921 *Franklin, Hattie Oct 15 1857 Jun 13 1932 Since she was born in 1904, and still her mother was called Belzie on her death cert., I am inclined to think that Harriett and Belzie are the same person. Census records show Belzie in 1880 and Harriett thereafter. Pearl died only a few years after Hattie Franklin, so one would think her husband, the informant on her DC, would have known her mother??? Her obit is no help.... mother not mentioned by name. The following obit was putlished in the Augusta Chronicle, Jan 30, 1941: DEATHS, FUNERALS -- MRS. PEARL RHODEN Johnston, SC, Jan 29 (1941) Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl Franklin Rhoden were conducted at Mount Calvary Lutheran church at 3:30 Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. W.D. Haitiwanger and the Rev. Paul Hartsell were the ministers in charge. Burial was in the churchyard cemetery, and six nephews of deceased acted as pallbearers. Mrs. Rhoden was the wife of George Rhoden, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Franklin, of the Mount Calvary section. She was 37 years of age. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Hattie George and Peggy Ann Rhoden; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Yonce, and four brothers, J. W. Franklin, W. L. Franklin, Marshall Franklin and A. B. Franklin, all of Johnston. ------------------------------------------------------ Now..... was Wade Franklin married once or twice. Check out the census records. NOTE THE INITALS after Harriets name in 1900. Could she have been Harriett 'Hattie' Ann Belzie? Salone as last name, or Sloan ?? No SLOAN hh in 1850 Edgefield census. There is one Slone in the 1860 Census book I have: Margaret Slone 26 and Harriett B. Slone 2, living in the hh with Andrew Yonce and Ellen. This Andrew (ca 1802) was the son of Mathias (ca 1778) and Margaret Bowers Yonce (ca 1780) per my attachments. Ages work. AH HA!!! A little more detecting and I find that I have this same Margaret Yonce b. Bet. 1832 - 1834 to Andrew (ca 1802) and Fema Unknown Yonce. I have her married to an Unknown Stone/Slone in my files, with a daughter Harriett B. And I think I found her in the cem. records, buried in a plot next to Hariett Franklin and her husband Wade. in the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church Cem, Aiken Co, SC just below Johnston, Edgefield Co, SC Sloan, Margaret Jul 8 1834 - Mar 11 1910 Anyway, back to the census records for Wade and the question of his wife/wives... 3. As many of you know, a group of about 20 of the descendants of Samuel and Martha-Jefferson Bell Walker of Revolutionary times in Edgefield, SC, have been working on a family history and fully-documented family tree for the Walkers through their great grandchildren. Our publication due date is late March of 2007. The Walkers and their in-laws and other closely related families (Allen, Bealle, Beams, Bell, Branch, Caldwell, Couch, Driskel, Easter, Eddins, Farrell, Farrow, Garrett, Halley, Hart, Hicks, Holloway, Jefferson, Johnson, Jones, Mays, Mayson, McCracken, McGee, McKinney, Miller, Mitchell, Nobles, Pfifer, Shivers, Simms, Smith, Stith, Talbot, Todd, Tucker, Turner, Walker, Williamson, Wise, Wright, and Wynne) moved on to Limestone County, AL, in the 1820s where Samuel Walker, Jr., became Speaker of the Alabama House in 1841. The Eddins line were among the earliest settlers in Tuscaloosa and the Easters were early in Limestone County, AL. Some of the family then moved on to Mississippi, Arkansas, and Texas. I've put below some of the description of our book, as well as some photo links. I would be glad to answer any questions or to do look-ups. 3. 1920 census: Cornelia Rearden is living in District 7, Gregg Township, Aiken County, SC, listed as "aunt" in the home of John and Belle Powell, their son Joseph, and John's mother-in-law Susan Rearden. 1910 census: Cornelia Rearden is living in District 6, Gregg Township, Aiken County, SC, listed as "sister" in the home of Susan Rearden and Susan's daughter, Belle. This suggests that Cornelia is actually Susan's sister-in-law, and the sister of Susan's husband/Belle's father. 1880 census: Cornelia (incorrectly indexed by Ancestry as "Camelia"...Billie, where did you see "Clarissa"?) Rearden is living in District 4, Gregg Township, Aiken County, SC, listed as "sister" in the home of Robert and Susan Rearden. 1870 census: Cornelia Reardon (incorrectly indexed by Ancestry as "Rardon") is living in Gregg Township, Edgefield County, SC, in the home of Robert and Susan Reardon. I have no information on her other than the dates from the cem. ------------------------------------------------------------- 1929 - Death Cert. #18652, Aiken Co, SC Miss Cornelia Rearden Female, White, Single b. 1849, SC father: _____ Rearden mother: Elizabeth Rearden, SC d. Nov. 23, 1929, Graniteville, Gregg twp, Aiken Co, SC cause: cancer of face informant: Mrs. J. M/W Rearden, Graniteville, SC buried: Graniteville, SC UT: Couch - Timmerman I have looked at all the Reardens, headed by both men and women, and cannot find a child Cornelia listed. One, Mrs. M. Rearden, 1860 Edgefield Dist, Graniteville PO, p. 34 hh#492/480 lists a Mary A. C. Rearden age 8 in the HH. Cannot place her. Just checked a listing of children in the notes of one Robert Rearden b. ca 1837 md. Sarah. Maybe she is Sarah Elizabeth? Because they have a Cornelia Rearden listed in the HH, age 18, so b. ca 1852. Close for census records. Other children in hh Wesley (8), William (6), Benjamin (4) and John (2). OOPS, noted that Sarah was only 28, so she cannot be the mother of Cornelia. Robert would have been 15 so he cannot be the father either. Makes me wonder if Cornelia is his sister. Just found her in the Graniteville cem. buried with the above Robert and Sarah E. POWELL per death cert. of her son John R. Rearden. Susan's own DC does not name her father but names her mother as Margaret Crozier, SC. Susan's death certificate did not help with her surname as father was not given. Mother was named. 1929 Death Cert. #5704, Aiken Co, SC Mrs. Susan E. Rearden Female, white, widow b. August 26, 1935, Graniteville, Gregg twp, Aiken Co, SC cause: Cerebral hemorrhage informant: A. R. Rearden, Graniteville, SC buried: Graniteville, SC UT: J. M. Posey & Sons, Graniteville, SC I found Susan as a widow in 1900 and Cornelia Rearden is living with her: Census: 1900 Aiken Co, SC, Gregg twp, hh#47/52/53 Susan Rearden, head, 12/1884, F W 55 widow 10 children/8 living, SC SC SC Belle Rearden, dau, 9/1871, F W 28 single, SC SC SC Eddie Rearden, son 7/1876, 23 single, SC SC SC Frank Rearden, son (nov) 1881, 18 single, SC SC SC Cornelia Rearden, sister, 11/1859, 40 single, SC SC SC William Merchant, boarder 6/1876, 23 Terriel Ergle, boarder, 10/1878, 21 Question: Is Cornelia a sister or sister-in-law. The census left all the last names Blank under Susan Rearden, leaving the assumption that Cornelia is a Rearden?? The 1880 census has a Clarissa Rearden of the same ca age living with Robert and Sarah, and listed as a sister. So I think she is sister of Robert Newton Rearden. I haven't connected them to their parents yet. Does anyone else have a Cornelia Rearden listed with a family?? ---------------------------------------------------------- Since these have so many questions with them, I won't add any more to them. Hope someone can add info. Please remember to delete the others in a reply and just include the one death cert. you are discussing. Billie Jones
