    1. Re: (Edgefield) Calhoun Journal-Jesse Lott- Near the Ridge question
    2. Tree Mother
    3. Again the geography of SC has me perplexed. In the Lott estate it says Sarah Lott (near the Ridge). What is the Ridge? Where was it located? Have seen this referred to before but have not found a map with a notation of the Ridge. Many thanks to Census20 for these great postings. I see names and also references that with scrutiny may lead to my family who just did not leave records. Shy or sly bunch! Tree Mother Researching: Langford/Lankford on Ninety Six Creek near William Burton or Burden, Dudley Brooks, Wiley Glover, Ramsey et al. in 1800 at time of sale; John Jackson on Bostick Creek formerly Cobbs land of Edgefield. No records of purchases have surfaced on either property. "She is insane, of course. The family history has bcome a mania for her." 3. --=======A0B2BF5======= Content-Type: text/plain; x-avg-checked=avg-ok-1CC81165; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Billie and others There is buried at Graniteville Cemetery, an Archie Edward Dean, born 9 Sept 1903 died 17 Apr 1961. Could this be the Archie Edward that is referred to in the obits. IF so he would have had to have been a son of Archie M and Mattie Ella. Also, he married Nell Ergle according to the Peter Ouzts Book. In addition, The Stroms of South Carolina 1765-1983 and Certain Allied Families, give a marriage of Cleora Thomas to a Frank Thorpe, Sr in aft 1937. She was the widow of Alfred Covar who died in 1937 and is buried in the Edgefield Village Cemetery. Could the first wife of Frank Thorpe Sr, be the Dean you are looking for? If so she would have died between 1940 and 1957, and would probably have been a daughter of Mattie Ella also. Since Frank Thorpe Jr was born abt 192o and I don't have a name for his mother. If this is so, then Archie Edward and the daughter would really be stepchildren of Blanch Just throwing out some suggestions.... 3. Billy: Every document that I have read about John Crouch, Senior's family states that Bailey's marriage to Nancy produced no offspring. I put poor old Lewis under Bailey & Nancy, not because it made sense, but because there was no other obvious place for him. Such temptations are the bane of genealogy. So I removed Lewis and temporarily I put him down as a son of Tolliver for about the same reasons I used for Bailey. However, as ever, I listed him as unconfirmed. John Crouch

    3. I have some old maps of PO that really helps me out with locations. They are copied from "SC Postal History & Illustrated Catalogue, By Postmarkd, 1760 - 1860" by Harvey S. Teal & Robert J. Stets. For help with the Christoper below, Cherokee Ponds would be right at the line of present Aiken and Edgefield Co, SC on highway 25 just up the road from North Augusta, SC. It is in the location where all the "Irish Travelers" are located in what was known locally as Murphy's village back when I was a girl living in North Augusta. My Mom use to visit a friend whose parents had a motel or cottages or the like and there is a small pond there. Just a tidbit to undertstand the location of the area.
