Descendants of James Harrison Generation No. 1 1. JAMES1 HARRISON He married SUSANNAH. Children of JAMES HARRISON and SUSANNAH are: 2. i. EDWARD2 HARRISON, b. 1780; d. 1829, Leroy Munday Adm. of estate. ii. JAMES HARRISON, b. June 06, 1871; m. MARY "POLLY" HOLLINGSWORTH; b. 1786. Notes for JAMES HARRISON: Under Act of 1791, James Harrison had 660-3/4 acres surveyed for him the 3rd day of August 1818, situate in Edgefield Dist. on Wilson's branch, the waters of Rocky Creek and Turkey Creek, waters of Savannah River. Witness: Andrew Pickens, Gov. at Columbia, S.C. Sept. 7, 1818 in the 43rd year of American Independence. Surveyor General signs Aug.26, 1818. In a Deed recorded Sept. 18, 1831, JAMES HARRISON gave unto the Methodise [sic.] persuasion Edgefield Co., S.C. to the following persons as trustees for Mount Vernon Church, WILLIAM R. MILLWR, SOLOMON JOHNSON, HENRY SHELMUT, JOHN DORRIS, and said JAMES HARRISON, a lot or place of land containing two acres of land, lying near old Long Cane Road on head dreans[sic] of Wilson branch, conveyed to the above named trustees for the Methodist Episcopal Church, and to be good ad[sic] long as they keep a church at Mt. Vernon, when they no longer kept a church there the deed would be void. Signed Sept. 10, 1831. Trustee of Edg. Meth. Ch. 1841 There is recorded Jan. 26, 1841, a deed from JOHN RODES to JAMES HARRISON for 90 acres on Cuffytown Creek (has notation of Jan.21 1785) and it joins land of JAMES HARRISON and HENRY LANGLY. Deed was signed Dec. 29, 1840 in the 55th year of American Independence. Will of JAMES HARRISON written Feb. 14, 1841 and recorded at Edgefield Dist., S.C. Nov. 13, 1843. Witnessed by JOHN ANDERSON, JAMES M. HARRISON, E. DEVERE, AND E LAGRONE. Harrison family history contd.: "JAMES HARRISON left to his wife MARY all of his estate both real and personal of every kind, and charged her with the education of his youngest son ROBERT PICKENS HARRISON. She was to give each child his lot, but if she married she was to take six choice Negroes, one out of every child's lot, and still live at the home place and have the use of the carriage, household goods, plantation tools and stock of all kinds. JAMES HARRISON left to the use of his son JAMES S. HARRISON 14 slaves and much land. To his son JOHN E. HARRISON 14 slaves and much land. To his son ROBERT PICKENS HARRISON he left 12 slaves and much land. To his daughter SUSANNAH S. HARRISON MAYSON he left 307 acres and 12 slaves. To his daughter MARY JANE HARRISON 15 slaves, 2 feather beds, furniture and four head of cattle. To son JOHN, 1 horse, 1 bed, and furniture, four head of cattle, both guns, the sideboard and secretary, one cupboard. To LAURA ANN HARRISON HOBBS, his daughter, 7 slaves on written condition that 'if Burel E. Hobbs or any other person brings suit against JOHN HOLLINGSWORTH as ADM. of WM. H. HOLLINGSWORTH deceased to recover this property to pay damage, the said HOBBS nor his children shall never have any other way.' [sic] The main part of the property was divided between his children, JAMES, JOHN, PICKENS, SUSANNAH, and MARY, and if any of them died leaving no children his part was to go to the other four; and if they all die but one leaving no children, that one is to have all the rest, and in case they all five die leaving no children all of the estate was to be in the hands of the S.C. Conference and their successor in office for the use of the M.E. Church. His wife Mary was appointed executrix, while a widow, and his sons JAMES and JOHN and PICKENS Executors. (Will book "D" p.208 Edgefield Dist., S.C.) A conservative estimate of the value of slaves at that time would be from about $750.00 each to $1,000.00 each, so this James Harrison was a wealthy man. Linda, I took the time yesterday to work on some of the census info. that you sent me, going to the microfilm of the original. This morning I have been working to see if I could fit the pieces together with the info. that has Onor married to Mansfield and then has her as the aunt of Walker Powell per your info. from 1920 census. I did not get to the 1920 census, but did find them in the 1910 census included in the following 'discussion' that I have entered in my notes for Honor Deane. I am also posting the info. to the various lists. There are some active Powell researchers out there, and hopefully they can help. Billie ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Linda Goetz sent me previously unknown information that Mansfield Dean, brother of my gg-grandmother Lina Dean Coursey, had remarried to an Onor ? after the death of his 1st wife, Sarah Styron, Sept 12, 1888. Based on census records showing the length of this 2nd marriage in 1910, they married almost immediately after her death. I am seeking informaton on her, to prove her surname and to figure out how she is connected as an aunt to the Withers Wesley Powell with whom she is living in 1910 and 1920. Hope someone out there can help. Descendants of Mansfield F. Dean 1 Mansfield F. She would be the sister of one of his parents and he would then be the grandson of the mother of Honor Walker (jr), in this case Honor Walker(sr), thus matching the census relationships. But who are his parents?? Since he is less than 10, he will not show up with parents in earlier census records. I claim not that these are correct and free of errors, but that they were compiled in earnest by a cousin of my grandmother, the daughter-in-law of Sallie Eugenia Collins, and handed down to me in earnest. I am just transcribing them and posting them here in hopes something will ring a bell and I will meet cousins I never met before. --Jessica Thompson Eustice Of Durham, NC (search for me on Google, I am for-real.) Generation Five Martha Jane Harrison and Elbert Harling had the following children: At the present writing I have info on a Frank S. Harling and Nora Harling only. 1. Frank s. Harling married Mary _____. Second marriage was to Mary Faulkner in 1880 at Graniteville, S. C. by reverend homas Walker. He died Jan 14, 1930. 2. Noral Harling born October 20, 1861, died March 3, 1936. My husband remembers very pleasantly Nora Harling, as she was a spinster lady who visited his mother. Mary Susannah Harrison and James Collins had the following children: 1. Mary Ann Collins b. 1846 2. Gibson Harrison Collins b. 1848 3. James Pickens Collins b. 1850 4. Sara Eugenia Collins b. 1852 5. Susan Maria Collins b. 1854 6. Thomas Efford (Effort?) Colllins b. 1857 7. Edward Collins b. 1859 1. Mary Ann Collins born Oct. 2, 1846, died Jan 18, 1850 2. Gibson Harrison Collins. Born July 17, 1848 died ____. This is Tone or Toney. At age of 15 he ran away and joined the Confederate States Army. He died many years later in the Confederate Home in Atlanta, GA. No info on whom he married. 3. James Pickens Collins born September 27, 1850 died Jan 26, 1936. He is buried at Johnston, S.C. He married Susan Morrison. [He was Jessica Thompson Eustices great grandfather. My grandmother has added in her own writing that he married a second time, Mary Josephine Holley. ] 4. Sara Eugenia Sallie Collins: Born Nov. 18, 1852, died October 12, 1926. She is buried in Graniteville. Sara Eugenia worked in the weave room of the Graniteville Mfg. Co. and there met William Marion Martin who also worked there. They were married at home in Graniteville about 1880. Wm Martin was on the Board of Stewards of the Methodist Church in Graniteville. We have a charming picture of Sallie, Bill and their three children.[sic] My Husband says he remembers being all dressed up for the occasion of going to Augusta to have their pictures made. He was nine, Brother five, and baby sister was posed sitting on mamas lap. Some sixteen or seventeen years later Wm Martin went to Alabama to live, marrying there and has a family in Sylacauga, Ala. He is buried in Sylacauga. I do not know if the Tillman family ever lived close to the Collins family, but I do know that Francis Miller Tillman who afterwards became a Mrs. Simpson was a lifelong friend of Sara Eugenia Collins Martin. As an old lady Mrs. Simpson also lived in Graniteville, and is remembered by Mary Glover Cooper. On a recent visit to South Carolina we went to the old Simpson Home. It is in a very bad state of repair and will not stand much longer. It was interesting to note how it was put together wilth wooden pegs instead of nails. There was also an interesting staircase which we did not dare ascend fearing the walls would fall on us. Mrs. Tillman says this was Chester. From there we went to the cemetery where the Tillman family is buried. This is near the Presbyterian Church called High View. It is built on a hill and was organized May 20, 1877. We noted at the time that it did not have a gallery for slaves, but were unaware of the reason. Station was established at the invitation of B.R. Tillman and his sisters at the Pavillion of the Hussars near the residence of Mr. Tillman. The Church was built on Tillman property and dedicated in November 1883. From there we went to Lanham Springs. This was a favorite picnic grounds of the early days, and here was held a reunion of survivors of Company I and Company K of the 24th Regiment South Carolina Volunteers commanded by General Ellison Capers, Sept 4, 1891. Congressman Geo. Tillman was present and Gov. Tillman was present. (correct). Since the Harrison men and their relatives and our grandfather Collins were in the 24th of the S.C. Volunters, it is interesting to note here that they saw hard service and served in Hoods Tennessee Campaign and especially the battle of Franklin. 5. Susan Maria Collins born Dec. 16, 1854 died September 1917. She married William John Glover (Born june 19, 1839, died May 26, 1901) married at Graniteville, S.C. sbout 1874. Both she and William Glover are buried in Graniteville Cemetery. While we were in South Carolina, Mary Cooper showed us some early pictures of her father and mother. We also have an interesting later picture of Susan Collins Glover. 6. Thomas Effort (Efford?) Collins born April 10, 1857, died Jan 24, 1923. Married Jane Owens (born 1856 died 1932.) They were married in 1876 and both are buried at Graniteville. 7. Edward Collins born 1859 died May 10, 1923. Married Anna Lott. They are both buried in Graniteville. Elizabeth Harrison and Limuel Alexander Hamilton had the following children: 1. James Crack Hamilton (married Elizabeth Horton) 2. Sallie Hamilton married Whitman Lanier Have no information on the children of Elizabeth Harrison Hamilton by her second marriage to W.T. Mathis. No info as to children of John E. Harrison. James William Walter Martin, born Oct. 21, 1882 in Edgefield. He was named for his great grandfather, grandfather, and also his father. A few years after graduating from Citadel College in Charleston S.C., degrees B.S. and C.E., he married Lillian Lilly Hunter, daughter of the distinguished physician and surgeon Dr. Benjamin Waggoner of Charleston S.C. The Hunter family at one time lived in Edgefield. S.C. and Dr. Hunter brought my husband into this world [sic] and remained his closest friend until his death. My Husband says many times Dr. Hunter reminisced about belonging to the Red Shirts and has often told him tales of the Ellenton riots. The marriage of Lilly Hunter Martin and James Martin was early dissolved. Lilly Martin for a time lived in North Augusta, later Florida, and died in New Orleans, La. After her death James Martin who by that time had come to Alabama, Married Lillian Fritz of Mobile, Ala. March 7, 1932. In World War I, James martin was Capt. Engineers Corp. and was honorably discharged Dec. 21, 1918 (Official roster of S.C. Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines Was 1917-18 Charleston County). 2. Jesse Hartwell Martin, born Aug, 17, 1886 died Oct. 13, 1918 during the flu epidemic prevalent at that time. Buried in Graniteville, S.C. Married Lessie Slayton who remarried after his death and she died Dec. 24, 1945 3. Cornelia Barsheba Martin known as Nela was named Cornelia for her aunt Cornelia Martin. She was four years younger than Jesse. She lived in Alabama with her father and married Dr. Joe Moore of Birmingham Ala., who was also her cousin. She was a very beautiful lady with a soft wistful expression, to judge from her photograph. She has been dead for many years, and was divorced at the time of her death. Children of Susan Maria Colins and William John Glover were: 1. Hazeltine Virginia Hattie Glover 2. William Eugene Glover 3. Isabelle Glover 4. Mary Susannah Harrison Glover 5. JAMES M HARRISON and MAR HARRISON had the following Children: 1. MARTHA JANE HARRISON called JANE 2. MARY SUSANNAH HARRISON called MARY S., MARY SUSAN, and also SUSAN 3. ELIZABETH HARRISON called NANCY 4. JOHN E. HARRISON 5. GEORGE AUGUSTUS HARRISON called GUS 6. CHARLES H. HARRISON 7. THOMAS H.HARRISON 8. JAMES WM. HARRISON called WILLIAM* *[1840 census indicates the following for the children of James M and Mary Harrison: John E. age 18 George A. age 16 William H age 13 Thomas H age 11 Charles H. age 9 Nancy Bush age 10] 1. MARTHA JANE HARRISON born Oct. 9 1826 died May 23, 1910, married ELBERT HARLING (born May 16, 1819, died July 4, 1882). Both are buried in Mt Creek Church Yard near Edgefield, S.C. ELBERT HARLING served in the war Between the States as a private in company K of the 24th regiment of infantry, S.C. volunteers, in which company also served his brothers-in-law JAMES COLLINS and JAMES WILLIAM HARRISON as well as numerous friends and relatives. 2. MARY SUSANAH HARRISON born 1826 died of pneumonia Feb. 25, 1901, while on a visit to her son JAMES PICKENS COLLINS in Johnston, S.C. She was brought back to Graniteville S.C. for burial and rests in the lovely old cemetery, together with four of her children. She married JAMES COLLINS. Since MARY SUSANNAH HARRISON COLLINS is the great grandmother of my son [this family history was written by one of Jessica Thomspon Eustices grandmothers cousins and is simply quoted in this transcription] for whom this information has been compiled, I set down in complete detail the knowledge I have. Our first glimpse of MARY SUSAN is from an old tin type and she is probably about seventeen at the time. She stands composed, demure and dainty while complacently seated is a gentleman friend! It is said the gentleman was BILL LAGRONE. Undoubtably it is the son of MARY A.E. HARRISON and ELIAS LAGRONE, MARY SUSANS cousin. Wheter there is an understanding between them, I do not know, but also we have a tin type of BILL LAGRONE taken alone, and these two pictures come down to us from MARY SUSAN herself. MARY SUSANNAH HARRISON was a singer, possibly of no particular importance other than her own pleasure, but we have her song book with the old square notes and on the fly leaf the book has written Mary Susans Book April the 2nd, 1843. We do know that she was a very able seamstress and this stood her is good stead when the lean times came after the War. No doubt she was also a feminine charmer of no mean ability as we have a most quaint old valentine, the date May 6, 1844, in which the suitor John B. Cook declares his intentions to Miss S.H. We have not found a record of her marriage to JAMES COLLINS but have placed it between June 1844 and January 1846. We have recorded under date of Oct.9, 1854 a deed from James S. Collins to 'B.B. Outz (Book HHH p. 65) where he sold 96 acres on Mt Creek joining lands of Avon Hill, J Sheppard. A Reynolds and Gibson Collins and others. Witnesses Geo. M. Outz, William M. Hamilton testify Oct. 9, 1854. Susan Collins also sign [sic] the release. It is worded to call her Susan but she signs it as Mary S. under date of March 8, 1851. On April 15th, 1862 at Edgefield, S.C. James Collins enlisted as a Private of company K 24th Regiment S.C. Infantry, Confederate States Army. A report of operations and casualties of that organization in the Battle of Secessionville, S.C. June 16, 1862, dated James Island S.C. June 18, 1862 shows him missing. An undated Union Prisoners of war roll shows him captured at James Island, S.C. No later record of him has been found (letter from Adjutant Generals office Dec. 15, 1949) Historical Commission of S.C. at Columbus, S.C. says James Colllins enlisted as a Private of company K 24th Regiment of Infantry May 13, 1862 from Edgefield District S.C. under Captain S.S. Tomkins. He is also listed on a roll of this Company dated 30th June 1862, as supposed to be a prisoner taken battle 16th June, 1862. His name does not appear on any later rolls to the end of the War. Note: June 16, 1862 was the date of the Battle of Secessionville on James Island, and this Company was stationed on James Island at that time. My Husband [sic this is from my grandmthers cousins records remember] says his mother told him her father died in a prison ship in New York of cholera. We know he never returned to his wife and family. The one letter that is extant from James Collins is so interesting and descriptive that I have asked permission of MARY GLOVER COOPER (His granddaughter) to include it here: Secessionville James Island June the 1st 1862 Dear Wife: I take this opportunity of dropping you a few lines to let you know that I am well at present. I hope when these few lines reaches you that you and the children will be enjoying the same blessing. We have moved twice since I wrote to you, but we are on the same Island, but I do not know when we will move again. Some say we will move tomorrow, but I dont think well stay long at this place for we cannot get water fit to drink. It is the greatest land that I ever saw in my life. The people have all moved off. There is nobody on the island but soldiers. The crops look fine, corn is in from breast to head high. The Island is fifteen miles long. The land is as rich as it can be and as level as it can be. It is very warm down here in the day time, but it is very cool in the night. The health of the camp is very good. There is some cases of mumps and measles in the camp. I am very well at the time, but I have been poorly ever since I have been on the Island with my bowels, but they have got a heap better and I think I can stand it tolerable, I have not stopped yet. I want you to write to me about the wheat, you must do the best you can. The Yankees shelled us from the camp they was at. When I went to the camp, we lay in the swamp all day until evening, then we went back and got our things and moved about three miles from where we were and camp that night, and next day we moved about three miles more. We are now in full view of Ft Sumter and and about three miles from Charleston. I can not write much Susan, for it is the worst place to write you I ever did see. Someone is always a coming in to ink of paper or something else. It is powerful hot in the tent now, about one oclock. You must excuse my bad writing for a feller has to catch his chance. Doc is a cutting wood today. Tell Tony I will try to send him some palmetto by the next letter I write. Tell Cousin Jarrott to write to me. Tell him I want to see him mighty bad. Give my love to all the children. I will try and come home as soon as I can, but no one can get a furlough now, times is sorter squally down here. As to my promise about the dog, I have kept it, and if I live I will keep it, I give you my word as a soldier. I have not seen but one white woman since I have been down here. I want you to get the dog if you please. I want to see you all mighty bad. Tell little Eddy howdy for me. I must close, Your affectionate husband until death. J. Collins. You must write, I want to hear from you. Write every chance you have. I heard from J. Collins [sic]. The above letter is addressed to Mrs. Susan Collins, Pleasant Lane, Edgefield, S.C. We know there was a post office there and believe that her father James M. also lived in that vicinity, but I do not know if she lived with him after her husband went to the War. My husband [sic] says his mother always told him that all of them were raised in luxury. She herself did not benefit too much from this, having been born not to long before the beginning of the War. Under date of Jan 28, 1865, Jas. M. Harrison of the state of S.C. Edgefield District for and in consideration of the natural love and affection he bore for his daughter Mary S. Collins, did give and grant into her, the children of her body, her executors, administrators and assigns, a tract of land in said District lying on the waters of Rocky Creek, waters of Turkey Creek, waters of Big Stephens Creek and Savannah River. Containing 30 acres of land, adjoining lands of Jarrott Nobles, James S. Harrison, and himself, to have and to hold the said land unto the said Mary S. Collins and her children, her executors and administrators and assigns forever, and the said Jas. M. Harrison for himself, his heirs and assigns forever. Witnessed by Jas M. Harrison and Wilkinson Motes. (Courthouse records; Deed Book LLL p. 131). My Husbands mother told him they had a difficult time especially after the war, and that they were in the path of Sherman when he marched through South Carolina. They mananged to save some things because ex-slaves took them to the woods and hid them. There were only six slaves who chose to remain with the family after they were freed. Mary Susan Collins appears on the Edgefield County 1870 Census as Susan Collins, age 43. Occupation Farming. Real estate $129.00 Personal $180.00 Born in South Carolina. Three of her children also appear: Susan 15, Thomas 13, and Edward 11. All were born in South Carolina. On Dec 1, 1880, Mary S. Collins sold her 47 acres of land to James Harrison Strom, grandfather of the present [sic] Governor of South Carolina, Strom Thurmond. She gave her address as Graniteville, S.C. in Aiken County (Book 5, p. 462). In 1884 William and Susan Mayson sold their land to James H. Strom and in 1886 Nancy and Willima Mathis sold their land to the same J.H. Strom. Nancy Mathis was Nancy Elisabeth or Nancy Bush Harrison sister of Mary Susannah.
I am looking for information on Reuben Mundy b. 1777 in VA? d.Feb 28, 1856 in GA. Family legend says that he was born in VA, migrated to GA and his father's name was William. FACTS: Reuben was in Putnam Co. GA Feb 10, 1814 when he married Mary Polly Andrews. He was previously married but her name is not known. He had three children by his first wife: Julia Ann Mundy, Mary Melvina Mundy and Hilery C. Mundy. By his second wife he had nine children. Also, family legend says that his first wife and father died during the migration process in either NC or SC. There is a Rubin Monday and Samuel Monday listed in 1810 in Edgefield, SC In 1820 there is a Henry Mundy listed, also. Reubin by 1820 is in GA. There is a William and James Monday listed in 1820 in Iredell Co. In 1810 there is a William Mundy listed. Can you shed some light on these Mundys and specifically Rubin? Is the Rubin in Edgefield SC my Rubin? Could William be related to my Reuben? Is he the father or brother? I would be interested in corresponding about the Mundy/Munday/Monday families. I have extensive info on Reubin's offspring. This has been my brick wall for the past 20 years. It is almost like he dropped from the sky into GA. ===== D H Deci Researching in GA: Hart, Drane, Knowlton, Mallory, Mundy, Ansley, Carter, Andrews Researching in MS: Drane Researching in AL: Knowlton Researching in WI: Kaiser, Baumann, Meidl Visit my site: http://www.geocities.com/familyhunter77/ __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I have been rereading some old messages that I saved because there was still something that needed to be done. This one deals with the conflict between the census records of the Jesse Satcher family and the death certificate of one Frances S. Jackson, who I have as Frances Satcher Jackson. I need help with some of the conclusions I have made. From cemsus records, I found the following informtion on the Jesse + Sarah [Hazel] Satcher. 1850 Edgefield Co, SC., Edgefield Division, p. 94B, hh# 1453 Satcher Jesse 30 M Farmer 1,000 SC Satcher Sarah A. 28 F SC Satcher Margaret 8 F SC Satcher Tillman 6 M SC Satcher John 4 M SC Satcher Sarah 2 F SC 1860 Edgefield Co, SC, Edisto Mills PO, p. 16 HH#122/119 Jesse Satcher 41 M Farmer SC Sarah A. Horace Satcher identifies Jesse's wife as Sarah Ann Hazel, but at this time it is not verified. I have ASSUMED that all of the children in the census records belong to Jesse and Sarah, but have no will or other document to verify those conclusions. Sarah is found living with her son Tillman in the 1870 Edgefield Co, Census, hh# 295 with other of her children: Tillman Satcher, head, 26, M W $1500/500 b. SC Sarah A. Felder Apr 15 1841 Jan 15 1895 ---------------------------------------------------- So, I concluded that Francis S. of 1880 was Francis Satcher d/o Jesse Satcher and Sarah Ann [Hazel] and that she married James Felder Jackson. Then I got her death certificate: 1928 - Death Cert. #12175, Edgefield Co, SC Mrs. Frances Jackson White, Female, Widow b. July 15, 1853, Edgefield Co, SC father: [James] Satcher, Edgefield co, SC mother. Ann [Floyd] d. Dec. 17, 1928, Johnston, Edgefield Co, SC cause: Mitral insufficiency informant: J. L. Jackson, Johnston, SC buried: Phillipi UT: Lott - Walker, Johnston, SC The parents don't fit with the other information. So...... 1. I checked the 1850,1860, and 1870 census records for a James Satcher in Edgefield around the time of Frances' birth and time at home. There was none. 2. I read the DC father as James altho is was very difficult to read, so it might have been Jesse. 3. Mother Ann could be Sarah Ann, and the Floyd name [in brackets because it was so hard to read] may be in error. 4. Frances' husband had been dead 33 years; her father died before her children were born; and her mother lived, but may only have been known as "Granny Satcher". Therefore the error may be a lack of knowledge by the informant, who was a Jackson, and not one that I can identify at that. Conclusion: I am still going with the census record and the info. that she is the daughter of Jesse Satcher until other evidence comes up that convinces me otherwise. I believe her to be the d/o 1 Jesse SATCHER b: Abt. 1819 d: May 24, 1865 . +Sarah Ann HAZEL b: November 12, 1821 d: May 09, 1890 Father: Darling Hazel Mother: Margaret Bland ........2. The following obituary appeared in the June 3, 1836 issue of the Columbus Enquirer newspaper of Georgia: "Died 17 May, Mrs. Sally NICHOLS, wife of William NICHOLS of Montgomery Co., AL in the 67th year of her age. She was married in Edgefield District, SC on June 26, 1787, thus she lived nearly 49 years in wedlock during which was a dutiful and affectionate wife--she had been a follower of Christ for upwards of 30 years, and in the close of life, realised the assurance of a future inheritance."
