It's just the one daughter Elizabeth, whose middle name was Sellers (for grandmother Jemima Sellers Gallman). The middle initial A on the first deed was a copying/transcription error. Title to the slaves from the second deed would revert to the other daughters of Benjamin Gallman in the event that Elizabeth (called "Bett") died without any surviving children. She eventually had nine of them, so the reversion-clause didn't go into effect. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Catherine Cooper" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, November 22, 2004 12:57 PM Subject: EDGEFIELD: Gallman/Moseley Deeds in Perry Co., AL > I am not related to these folks but found the following deeds while viewing microfilms for Bibb Co., AL. This was a multiple posting to several lists. I hope this is not a duplicate message to too many people. My e-mail subscription lists from ROOTSWEB.COM have been doing some really unusual things lately. Postings not coming back to me, coming in several days after I posted them, etc. These two lists came back that I had typed the e-mail address wrong. Is anyone researching WHITLOCKS and RANDAL/RANDALL (other spellings like Randolph, etc.) in early Edgefield District, South Carolina. I am looking for a Mary Randal/l (perhaps other spellings) who married James W. Whitlock, Sr. in 1821. Mary Randal Whitlock was b. c. 1800-1805 d. between 1870-1880. James W. Whitlock, Sr. was b. 1791 died 1852 Edgefield District, S. C. They lived just south of the Pine Log House (Swearingens)and Trenton. Winfrey Whitlock (name grossly misspelled)is listed on early Edgefield maps of that area. Most of the Randal/Ls in the Edgefield District area trace by to George Randal m. Phoebe Roebuck. There are several households of Randals on the 1820 census of Barnwell District who seems to have had females in Mary's age group. Several people have been kind enough to send me files on the Randals, but none seem to have a Mary of the right age to have m. Whitlock. The marriage date is from the family Bible (title page at a later date) and her maiden name of RANDAL is from the death certificate information given by a daughter-in-law in 1916 when the youngest son, Benjamin Frankin Whitlock, died in Augusta, Richmonds County, Georgia. Benjamin Franklin Whitlock and his wife Melissa Emmaline Bagnell lived at 1488 May Avenue/Walton Way Extension in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia. Benjamin Franklin Whitlock is buried in the Magnolia Cemetery in Augusta, Georgia. One set of my great grandparents were Ed Carpenter and Emma Frances Whitlock Carpenter who lived at 1492 May Avenue/Walton Way Extension. Emma's father, James W. Whitlock, Jr. was the oldest brother of B. F. Whtilock. I now have a file of over 700 people who are related and lived in the area of Edgefield District, South Carolina. Major surnames are WHITLOCK, BOOTH, CARPENTER, ETC. Vivian Cates, Rt. #2 Box 52-A, Alto, Texas 75925-9607 1-936-858-3801 http://www.inu.net/vcates

Judy, what a wonderful family find. I know how excited you must be. I have followed your research with interest due to the marriage of Lucretia Walker to Thomas Holloway. Right now I find no connection with Thomas to my two Holloway lines INy two Holloway lines may merge back in VA., but I have not been able to find the connection regarding parents of Reuben Holloway (ca 1750 - 1808 d. Edgefield Dist, SC) to make the connections yet. In reading the info. in the "Quill", I thought I would check "Edgefield Death Notices and Cem. Records" by Carlee McClendon to see if the ones who died in Edgefield were mentioned. I noted the following: Regarding the death date of Ann Walker Mays, which you gave in the Quill as 12 Feb. 1841, the following obit gives Feb. 12, 1841: "Died, in Edgefield District on Feb. 12, 1841, Mrs. Ann Mays, wife of W. B. Mays, Esq. She was a kind wife and mother" [The Edgefield Advertiser, April 8, 1841 as published in "Death Notices and Cem. Records" by Carlee McClendon.] As for W. B. Mays whose date of death in the Quill is given as Feb. 15, 1846, the following obit gives it as Feb. 18th: "Died, in Edgefield District, on Sunday, Feb. 18, 1846, Captain W. B. Mays, in the 53rd year of his age" [The Edgefield Advertiser, March 4, 1846 as published in "Death Notices and Cem. Records" by Carlee McClendon.] These seem to be the only ones who died in Edgefield Dist. Would appreciate comments on the discrepancy in the dates of death and why your determined the dates that you have, as I know you have put much research into these folks. Another question: Who is the Sophia Holloway b. Oct 9, 1808. I was getting ready to attach her as a daughter of Thomas and Lucretia Walker Holloway, but Lucretia died in 1803 per the records. I have Samuel of the Bible records as one of their sons, but cannot identify Sophia. Also cannot identify from my research the Lewis and Rachel Sims. Did Rachel Walker remarry?
