Received this info. which might connect to famlies of Old Edgefield Dist: Billie --------------------------------------------------- Match: Edgefield AND SC Source: ATTAWAY-L@rootsweb.com From: Ladonna Viertel <middlebiscuits@charter.net> Subject: re: David Attaway of SC/1830 I just read this bit of information on a David Attaway, living in South Carolina in early 1830. Hopefully, it will help someone out there. (My Attaway is out of Georgia). From "The Pendleton Messenger", Pendleton, SC, March 10, 1830: A few days ago, the horse of Mr. David Attaway, a citizen of this District, living on Saluda River, while on his way home from the house of a neighbor, accidentally took fright, and the bridle-bit breaking, left the road, and running through the woods, threw him against a tree which occasioned his death in a short time". (Copied from the "Edgefield Carolinian"). This last bit of information may indicate the Mr. Attaway was a resident of Edgefield District, and not OPD. The following was in todays (8/16/2006) State Paper. I DON'T work on these names, altho I have 26 Senn surnames in my files and some information on several Gillam/Gilliam/Gillian families. The surname are definitely some I have seen in relation to the Old Edgefield Dists. area, so thought I would send it to the lists. I am not on the Lexington list, so if someone is, you might want to forward it to that list as well, since she was born there. Billie Jones ----------------------------------------------------- Gladys Gillian Senn JOANNA - Gladys Gillian Senn, age 82, of 303 Laurens St., and widow of William R. Senn, died Wednesday, August 16,2006, in Providence Hospital in Columbia. She was born in Lexington County, a daughter of the late Reedy B. and Maggie C. Miller Gillian. She had retired from Blalock Plant of Greenwood Mills and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Joanna. Surviving are one son and his wife, Steve and Dorothy Broome Senn of Joanna, one sister, Mrs. Pam Adams of Columbia, three grand-children, eight great-grandchidren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Aug. 18th, at 3 p.m. at Gray Funeral Home chapel with burial in Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry. The family will receive friends one hour before the service Friday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of her son, 323 Bymes St., Joanna, SC. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.grayfuneralhome.com. Gray Funeral Home of Clinton is serving the family.
Are there any on this list who are researching in this area? I would like to exchange information with you. My interest is in the WARRENs of that area, but I've accumulated some information on many of their neighbors, in-laws, etc. At the moment, I am trying to identify these Warrens who were shown on the 1800 census; William Warren whose numbers indicate 2 males less than 10; 1 16-26; 2 over 45; females 2 less than 10; 2 10-16; 2 16-26 & 3 26-45. Eleanor whose numbers indicate 1 male less than 10; 1 10-16 and she is 26-45 I know there was a William who married an Eleanor; he is usually said to have died about 1799 and this is his widow on the 1800 census. Yet I have this deed abstract from Edgefield dated 12/20/1809 of William Warren to Watts Mann for $500, 75 acres on Saluda River and Ditch Creek. Wife, Eleanor also signed the deed. So, if that is accurate, who are the William and/or Eleanor on the 1800 census? Janet Small
INDEX - 1870 SC index of Wittles (white) , All born in SC, all in different locations of Edgefield Dist,. Deleted the place of birth and the County column so it will fit in an email without wrapping. There was only one other Whittle in SC in 1870, one Caroline age 26 in Lexington Co, SC The Heritage Quest index gives only HEAD of HH and Whittle who are living in another HH with different surname, so this is certainly not an everyname index. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Surname Given Name Age Sex Race Location Year WHITTLE AMBROSE JR 23 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE AMBROSE SR 73 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE DANIEL 24 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE ELIZABETH 35 F W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE ELLEN 31 F W GREGG TWP 1870 WHITTLE EMANUEL 35 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE HARTWELL 35 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE HARTWELL SR 48 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE HEPSEY 46 F W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE HEZEKIAH 28 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE HULDAH 44 F W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE JAMES 78 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE JOHN 15 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE JOHN SR 69 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE LUCY 10 F W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE MAHLON 36 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE MALACHI 28 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE MALACHI 36 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE NANCY 75 F W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE POLLY 54 F W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE REBECCA 75 F W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE SEAMON 28 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE SOPHIA 65 F W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE THOMAS 27 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE WILLIAM 35 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 WHITTLE WILLIS 44 M W SALUDA DIVN 1870 Copyright © 1999-2006 ProQuest Information and Learning Company. I am not a Stalnaker researcher, but know the name from researching other families and have a Sebron in my files as he connects to the Powell family I helped someone reseach. Some information on a Stalnaker Cem. was posted and forwarded to me because the original query, to whom the cem. records was an answer contained the words Edgefield and SC. My grandfather, Thomas Rush Kissick, had 4 sisters...Frances, Margaret, Martha (Jane), and Nancy....all born between 1833 and 1850, possibly in Newberry Co. They moved about 1860 to Laurens and Thomas moved to Edgefield. Does anyone have a grand mother of gr-grand mother whose maiden name was Kissick? Thanks Rose
Sure would be nice if the TILLMAN HARLING reunion, from the 40-50's, was reactivated by a local descendant. I remember as a boy that there was dozens and dozens and dozens of descendants attending in those days ... most of them red heads of course. I JUST NEWLY SUBSCRIBED. Q1: Is it known how many different Bell families were in early Edgefield? Q2: Were they all interconnected? Q3: Is there a published paper about this? Q4: Can you suggest further resources to check? There were the branchlines of (1) Benjamin Bell (d.1779, SC). But, then there were also 2) Joel, (3) Stephen, and others. At the moment, I am curious about Joel and Stephen Bell. The known descendants of Benjamin on Ancestry.com seem to have gone off to different states from mine. Stephen acquired land in Edgefield in 1817-18. He had an ample number of boys on the SC census. Joel went to Clark Co., AL (d. 1849). My gg-gf, David Bell (1810, SC - 1854, AL) had a younger brother, Nathan (b. 1812, SC), who gave his county of birth as Edgefield. David oldest brother, Burrell (b. 1803, SC), named his firstborn Stephen (b. 1834, AL). A clue? In 1880 AL, Burrell gave his parents places of birth as NC and NC. A clue? Among Benjamin's cousins were two other Burrells who lived and died off in Wake Co., NC. A clue? BELL siblings Burrell (1803, SC - 1880+, of Escambia Co.(?), AL) William (1805, SC - 1860+, of Baldwin Co., AL) David (1810, SC - 1854, Baldwin Co., AL) Nathan (1812 Edgefield Co., SC - 1885, Monroe Co., AL) possibly: Catherine (md. Coincidence? Maybe. Lewis Mann's son, John Watts Mann II, was marreid in Stewart Co., GA, in 1838. In that county at that same time were also living Thomas and Davenport Lawson from Edgefield. -------------------------

Billie, Sorry about the delay in response (family health problems.\ > Milldige Satcher, b Jan 21 1856, Son of Jesse Satcher and Sarah Ann Hazel. Jesse was the son of Arthur Satcher and unknown Bush. The only Singleton Satcher I have is a William Singleton Satcher, born about 1856. Son of William Satcher (died June 1857)and Margaret Crouch. Singleton had a brother named Jesse b abt 1854. William Satcher was son of Arthur Satcher and unknown Bush. Note the court action to divide property of Arthur after his death (1859) identifies Jesse and Singleton as children of Arthurs son William. Jesse and Singleton appear to be in the household of Jeptha Croch >1860 Edgefield Co, SC, Edisto Mills PO, p. 15, hh11/108 >Jeptha Crouch 56 M Farmer SC >Elizabeth Crouch 56 F SC >Watson E. Crouch 25 M Farmer SC >Margaret SATCHER 24 F SC >Jesse A. SATCHER 6 M SC >Wm. S. Satcher 4 M SC I also have that Elizabeth Crouch above was a daughter of John B. Bush. I have the same date of death that you show but do not have wife or children. I think that he may be the husband of Elizabeth mentioned here . Perhaps the 1870 census would answer some questions. > From: "Lee and Billie Jones" <tjones@camden.net> > Date: 2006/08/03 Thu AM 11:36:09 EDT > To: SCEDGEFI-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [SCEDGEFI] RE: Milledge Satcher d. The East Texas Historical Journal recently published a transcription of "The Daybook of Benjamin Walker, 1846." He also recorded the names of people he met and from whom he bought land.
