    2. NEWTON, NC — Doris Allen O’Neal Dunn, 92, of Abernethy Laurels, Newton, NC died Monday, March 5, 2007 at Abernethy Laurels. Born May 24, 1914 in Latta, SC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Judson and Anna Belle Stanton Allen of Allendale, SC. She was first married to the late D. Brooks O’Neal of Mullins. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and did graduate work at the University of South Carolina and Western Carolina University. She taught school many years in Ware Shoals, Marion and Mullins. She held many offices in the South Carolina State Society, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, serving at State Regent from 1985 - 1988 and made Honorary State Regent. She was a member of the board of trustees at the DAR School at Tamassee, SC for nine years. She was a member of the Blue Savannah - Swamp Fox Chapter DAR. She was a member of the National Society Magna Charta Dames; National Society Daughters of the American Colonist, Peedee Chapter; National Society Daughters of Colonial Wars. She was a charter member of the Pee Dee Chapter Genealogical Society and was awarded a plaque for writing and publishing a family history, Allen and Allied Families. She was a choir member of the Mullins First Baptist Church for many years and the Curator of the Heritage Room in this church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, D. Brooks O’Neal and her second husband, Langdon Barmore Dunn; three sisters, Elise Colvin, Vivian Brandenburg and Louise Hoffman. Survivors include: a son & daughter-in-law, David Brooks O’Neal, Jr. and wife, Susie O’Neal of Charlotte, NC, a daughter & son-in-law, Jean Dunn Gurley and husband, Edgar D. Gurley, Jr. of Newton, NC, two grandchildren, Edgar D. Gurley, III of Newton, NC, Susanne Roderick of Roanoke, VA, one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Roderick of Roanoke, VA. A Service of Remembrance will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Spirit Place of Abernethy Laurels. Rev. James Luck will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service. A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Friday in Magnolia Cemetery in Latta, SC. Meares Funeral Home of Mullins will be in charge of the graveside service.
