    2. CHAPIN — Services for Ranell (Nell) Grice Pittman, 74, will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at 3:00 p.m. at Chapin Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to the church or Tri-County Hospice. Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Chapin Chapel, is in charge. Mrs. Pittman passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2007, at home after an extended illness. Born in Bingham, SC, in Dillon County, on May 31, 1932, she was the daughter of late Nettie Cox Grice and Paul Leon Grice, and was the devoted and loving wife of Stuart Douglas “Doug” Pittman. They would have celebrated their 55th anniversary on July 4th, 2007. Mrs. Pittman attended Dillon County Schools and graduated from Lower Marlboro High School as Salutatorian and voted as “Prettiest in Senior Class.” She was offered a full scholarship to Winthrop University but was unable to attend due to medical reasons. She graduated from Pee Dee Business College in 1950. While living in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, and serving as a Navy wife, she was employed at Claude Nolan Cadillac. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Dr. Vo Van Kim and Dr. Ngyuen Thieu for 14 years as office manager. Having moved to Columbia in 1955, she was active in softball in the St. Andrews area and was a member of Earlewood Baptist Church for 49 years and most recently Chapin Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Doug Pittman of Chapin; daughter, Pamela “Pam” Pittman Carver of Irmo; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Barbie Pittman of Chapin; son, Daryl Pittman of Chapin; granddaughters, Ashleigh Carver of Irmo and Tara Pittman of Chapin; grandsons, J.D. Pittman, USAF, Warner Robbins, GA, and Shane Pittman of Columbia; great-granddaughter, Carleigh Pittman; numerous nephews, nieces and extended family.
