    2. NICHOLS — Mr. James Lowell Hayes , 79, devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, died Wednesday, September 6, 2006, in Loris Hospital after an illness. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Friday, September 8, at Mullins First Baptist Church, with the Rev. James C. Shelley and the Rev. Jim Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow in Green Sea Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. Mr. Hayes was born November 27, 1926, in Dillon County, a son of the late Earl and Malcolm Price Hayes. He was a retired farmer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II, and was a past member of the American Legion. Mr. Hayes was a member of Wannamaker Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Hayes are his wife, Balzora Strickland Hayes of the home; his children, Debra Hayes Holmes and her husband, Milton, of Marion, Steve Hayes and his wife, Kathi, of Nichols and Donna Hayes Lupo of Nichols; his grandchildren, Chad Hayes and his wife Sherry, Kimmie H. Martin and her husband William, Nikki H. Smith and her husband Jack, Kelley L. Holmes and Matthew M. Holmes; a stepgreat-grandchild, Holly Townsend; and his sisters, Sylvia H. Livingston of Rock Hill, Doris H. Clemmons of Green Sea, Sara Kathryn H. Strickland of Pleasant View and Emily Ann H. Small of Greer. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Cox-Collins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O.
