    1. Leroy Turner
    2. Leroy Turner, 79, died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, of natural causes at his residence in Dillon. Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Friday in Dillon Second Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday evening in the funeral home. He was born on November 22, 1926 in Dillon, SC. He served in the Navy from 1944 to 1947 during World War II. He was a loyal employee of Mohawk Carpet for more than 30 years. At the time of his death, Leroy was working part-time at Dillon Christian School and loved to play shoot-um-up with all of the children in the hallways. He was a dedicated member of Second Baptist Church and took comfort in the fellowship of his friends. He was called by many nicknames. The children and staff of Dillon Christian School called him "Mr. T.". He called himself, "The Rock" because he said he could handle anything. In the navy he somehow got the nickname, "Nuke". The most appropriate, however, was "Sunshine," given to him by his close friend Linda Scott because of his sunny disposition, constant smile, and love of making others laugh. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Baker Turner; son, Wayne Turner; father, Tracey Turner; mother, Daisy Turner; brothers, Laneau Turner and Kay Turner; and a sister, Pauline Turner Prince. He is survived by his grandchildren, Andrea Dawn Allen of Latta and Tia Leanne Jones of Dillon; daughter-in-law, Helen Joan Turner of Dillon; great-grandchildren, Daniel Allen, Michael Allen, and Gracie Jones; and by his large group of friends and church family. Special thanks goes to Linda & Charles Scott, Lorene Goodwin, James & Brenda Osborne, Leroy & Eleanor Owens, Barbara & Lamar Carter, Preston & Jimmy Beech, Mae Sellers, and many more family friends for all of their love and support during his last years with us. Memorials may be made to Dillon Second Baptist Church, 1016 Hwy 301 North, Dillon, SC 29536.
