LANCASTER — Devitt “Dee” Rogers Jr. journeyed home to God October 31, 2006, in the company of his loving family and friends, his hand held by his brother, Jordan. Dee was born May 15, 1985, in Columbia, the son of Devitt Rogers Sr. of Columbia and Pamela Belk Rogers of Lancaster; he also lived in Dillon. Always athletic, Dee was a soccer and football player from age four and loved the outdoors and nature. An avid sports fan, nothing could keep him from following his beloved Clemson Tigers, Green Bay Packers, Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. He often talked about his trip to see his teams play. Most comfortable with family and friends, holidays with them were a joy to his life. He singled out family trips to Disney, Christmas trips on a cruise, then to Quebec and Montreal and later to San Francisco as favorites. A gregarious young man who loved deeply, he was always full of wit with a sense of humor that endeared him to all who came in contact during his life. Dee touched all who met him with a wonderful capacity for love, compassion and concern. He loved easily and fully to all fortunate enough to share in his life. Always in his thoughts was his best friend, Jared Steele, who passed in an accident October 7, 2005, which Dee survived. Dee is survived by his mother and brother of Lancaster, father in Columbia, grandparents, Billy G and Sara J. Rogers of Dillon, Pat and Paul Belk of Lancaster, great-aunts, Peggy and Madeline Belk of Lancaster, uncles and aunts, Paul H and Courtney Belk of Lancaster, Jeannie and Earl Shelley of Latta, Gordon and Debbie Rogers of Dillon, cousins, Monica (Mark) Calello of Charlotte, Dr. Jocelyn (Ben) Renfrow of Greenville, Sara (David) Stokes of Camden, Billy Rogers III of Charleston, Sara B. Rogers of Clemson, Kirby Shelley of Spartanburg and Bryce and Lawson Belk of Lancaster. The family will celebrate his life forever. From all of us we thank those wonderful doctors, nurses and staff of Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. Services will be held 3 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2006, at Hopewell United Methodist Church, Lancaster, with graveside services afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be sent to Presbyterian Hospital, Harris Hospice Unit, 200 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 33549.
