    2. DILLON — Samuel Bowen Ingram, Dillon County Attorney, died February 20, 2006, following a recent stroke. Visitation will be held at Cooper Funeral Home in Dillon from 7 - 9 p.m. Wednesday, February 22, with funeral services being held Thursday, February 23, at 2 p.m. at Main Street United Methodist Church and graveside services following at 5 p.m. in Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens in Cheraw. A native of Cheraw, Sam was a graduate of Clemson University and the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Following his admission to the South Carolina Bar, he began practicing law in Dillon in 1981. Upon entering Clemson, Sam was in the initial group of Edgar A. Brown Scholars. He was also the recipient of the Kitty M. Fairey Scholarship at Clemson. He served as President of the Student Senate, and was a member of the South Carolina State Student Legislature, Blue Key National Honor Fraternity, and Hugo L. Black Society. He was also selected to appear in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. During his years of practice, he served as an Assistant Solicitor of the Fourth Judicial Circuit, Dillon Town Recorder, and Dillon County Public Defender. Sam also served as Chairman of the Dillon County Democratic Party for many years. Sam had worked in various capacities with the youth of Dillon County and spent many hours as a volunteer with Dillon Christian School, the Boy Scouts, and youth baseball programs. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. Sam’s life centered around his two beloved daughters, Suzanne and Reba, and his work as a trial lawyer. His office was open to people of all races and stations in life, regardless of their ability to pay. He is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Kinon Ingram, of Lander University and Reba Anne Ingram of the home, his father, Thomas E. Ingram, Sr., of Cheraw, one sister, Sallie I. Goldfinch, of Cheraw, two brothers, Emsley G. Ingram and wife, Debbie, and Thomas E. Ingram, Jr., both of Cheraw, several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Judge and Mrs. Marion (“Son”) Kinon and John Grubb, all of Dillon. He was predeceased by his mother, Sammie Thompson Ingram. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Ingram Girls Trust Fund in care of First Citizens Bank, 406 Highway 301 North, Dillon, SC 29536.
