    2. MARION — Mr. John Marion Ammons, 69, husband of Joan Turbeville Ammons, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at Marion County Medical Center after an illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Pyerian Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mike Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in Pyerian Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home. Mr. Ammons was born Dec. 20, 1936, in Dillon, a son of the late Fred and Lelia Bryant Ammons. Mr. Ammons retired from the Marion Police Department. He was a member of Pyerian Baptist Church. Surviving Mr. Ammons is addition to his wife of the home are two sons, Kenneth Ammons of Marion and Thomas Ammons and his wife, Rhonda, of Marion; a daughter, Beverly A. Harper of Asheboro, N.C.; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Doris Brown and her husband, Herman, of West Columbia, Addie Freeman of Mullins, Lola Smalls and her husband, Johnny, of Dillon and Geraldine Sanders and her husband, Charles, of Laurinburg, N.C.; and a brother, Freddie Ray Ammons and his wife, Eva Jane, of Florence. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Smith-Collins Funeral Home.
