Berry, Merna ORANGE PARK, Fla. -LATTA- Merna W. Berry, 92, of Deerwood Place Retirement Center, Jacksonville, Fla., passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005. She was born in Monroe, N.C., Oct. 7, 1912, to Charles and Essie Wilson. She grew up in the Effingham community of Florence County. She graduated from Tans Bay High School and then from The Mcleod Infirmary School of Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse until her retirement in 1977. She was a charter member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Florence. She is survived from her first marriage to the late Hartwell D. (John) Batts by her daughter, Barbara B. Tedder (Roger) of Orange Park, Fla., two grandchildren: Reverend R. Dale Tedder, Jr. (Suzanne) and Nancy T. Smith (Sean), both of Jacksonville, and seven great grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as Granny Merna. Also surviving are five sisters, Edith Allen, Grace Mims, Mildred Clark and Betty Dennis, all of Florence, and June Williford of Columbia, along with many nephews and nieces. She is also survived by her late Husband, Carlisle Berrys children, Betty Bethea (Jimmy), Elizabeth Cooke (Billy), W.C. Berry (Jackie) and Charles Berry (Beverly) of Latta, along with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, in Langley Chapel at Southside United Methodist in Jacksonville, with a cremation burial service at a later date in Florence.
