PAWLEYS ISLAND | Rollie Gatlin Hanna Jr., 82, died Sunday, May 14, 2006. Born in Dillon County on Mar. 18, 1924, Rollie was the son of Ellen James Hanna and Rollie Hanna Sr. Rollie was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps and graduated from Clemson University with a degree in electrical engineering. He was employed by Stahl Rider Corporation in Raleigh, N.C., where he retired as president and co-owner. An active member in Belin United Methodist Church, Rollie served as a Chairman of the Trustees and was the first president of the Rollie Hanna Breakfast Club. Rollie developed the THEHANNAFAMILY.com website in his retirement, researching and documenting the genealogy of the Hanna family from 1727 to present. Rollie leaves behind family and friends who are better people for having him in their lives. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Charles Hanna of Pawleys Island; two sons, Rollie Gatlin Hanna III of Richland, Wash. and Glenn Edens Hanna of Jacksonville, Fla.; two stepchildren, Elizabeth Charles Ross and her husband, William T. Ross Jr. of State College, Pa., and John Murrell Charles and his wife, Libby Gibbs Charles of Charlotte, N.C. and Litchfield Beach; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Rollie is survived also by his sister, Edna Hanna Creque of Columbia and Murrells Inlet. Rollie was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Jane Edens Hanna; and by sisters, Opal Hanna, Verma Louise Hanna, Jessie Hanna Caywood, Rometta Hanna Spencer and Doris Hanna Hunnicutt. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2006 at Belin United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends after the service at Belin Family Life Center.
