MULLIKIN, Anne Anne McQueen Knight Mullikin, 91, of McClellanville, SC, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006. She was born October 26, 1914, in Bon Lee, North Carolina, and grew up in Dillon, South Carolina. Her parents were Mary Alice Martin Knight and Wilbur Vernard Knight. In her early career she taught math a Brooklyn-Cayce High School in Columbia, at Dillon High School, and at Wellford-Lyman-Tuckapaw in Spartanburg County after her marriage to John Robert Mullikin, who preceded her in death. While raising her family, she taught at Piedmont High School and at Woodmont High School. To this day her own children remember principles of geometry and higher math because she insisted on reasoning out each problem or theorem. Mrs. Mullikin earned an Associate degree from Presbyterian Junior College in Maxton, NC, living with her grandparents and attending the men's college as a day student. She completed her Bachelor's degree at Winthrop College in 1936 and a Master's degree from Clemson University in 1970. She was an active member of Piedmont United Methodist Church and later, of McClellanville United Methodist Church. She helped organize the Bonnes Amies Club in Piedmont and was an avid bridge player and Book Club member. She could always be counted on for sage counsel and calm perspective. For the many who knew her, she was a still center of their whirling worlds. She is survived by her three children and their families: John and Jayne Mullikin of Blythewood, SC, Sam and Anne Knight Watson of McClellanville, SC and Mary and Billy Ellis of Columbia, SC; her grandchildren, Nina and Shawn Gregory and Frances Watson of Charlottesville, VA and Anne-Marie Ellis and John Ellis of Columbia, SC; and by her sister, Ruth Knight Simpson of Dillon, SC. She was preceded in death by her sister Frances Martin Knight and her brother Henry Knight. A memorial service will he held on Friday, May 12, 2006 at eleven o'clock in the McClellanville United Methodist Church, 568 Pinckney Street, McClellanville, SC. Graveside services will be held at Greenville Memorial Gardens, 7784 Augusta Road, Piedmont, SC on Saturday, May 13, 2006 at eleven o'clock.
