LATTA — James Preston Parnell, 80, died Sunday, April 30, 2006, in McLeod Medical Center-Dillon. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mt. Andrew Cemetery. Born February 8, 1926, in Bordeaux, SC, he was a son of the late Brooks Parnell and Pearl Brown Parnell. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II with the 8th Battalion, a graduate of Clemson University, and a member of the Mt. Andrew United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Lucille H. Parnell of Latta; children, Robert Parnell, Lillie Blalock, Lynda Nowell, all of Dillon, Jimmie Smith of Aynor, William A. “Red” Jackson, Allen Jackson, and Wanda Dobbs, all of Floyd Dale; sister, Betty Powell of Greenville; brothers, Buddy Parnell of Lexington and Buster Parnell of Calhoun Falls, SC; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Mr. Parnell was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Parnell.
