LAKEVIEW — Mr. Jack A. Stanley, 76, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at his home after an illness. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at First Baptist Church of Lake View. Burial will be at Lake View Perpetual Cemetery, directed by Cook Funeral Home of Lake View. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, at the funeral home. Mr. Stanley was born Feb. 23, 1930, in Dillon County, the son of the late John H. and Ina Humphrey Stanley. He was a graduate of Lake View High School in 1946 at the age of 16 and later the South Carolina Bankers School. Mr. Stanley served in the U.S. Army from 1951-53 during the Korean conflict and four years in the active reserves as a sergeant. He was employed with Atlantic Coast Railroad from 1947-1960 as a telephone clerk. Mr. Stanley started with Lake Banking Co. in 1960 and later served as executive vice-president. When Lake Banking Co. merged with First Citizens Bank of S.C. in 1967, Mr. Stanley served as vice-president and city executive. During this same time period, he also served as chairman of the S.C. Bankers Association. Mr. Stanley served on various local and county committees. These committees included: St. Eugene Board of Directors, St. Eugene Advisory Board for over 15 years, and Lake View School Board for 12 years. He was a past member of the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, American Cancer Society, Dillon County American Legion and others. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Lake View. Mr. Stanley was one of the founders of Carpostan Industries Inc. in 1969. He served as secretary-treasurer and director for over 35 years. He was a local businessman with an entrepreneurial spirit including owner of Lake View Perpetual Cemetery, Lake Country Kitchen and Lake View Insurance Agency. His interests included reading, farming and fishing. He was a loving husband and father to the end. Surviving Mr. Stanley are his wife of 50 years, F. Lou Strickland Stanley of the home; a daughter, Ina Jean Stanley of Lake View; two sons, John Austin Stanley of Hilton Head and Wade Austin Stanley (Sharon) of Greenville, N.C.; four grandchildren, Austin Lewis, Justin Lewis, Trey Oliver and Jackson Stanley; two brothers, Bill Stanley (Ida) of Rocky Mount, N.C., and Johnny Stanley (Sharon) of North Myrtle Beach. Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by his daughter, Jackie Lou Stanley Lewis. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Lake View, P.O. Box 397, Lake View, SC 29563.
