DILLON — Evelyn Cox, 69, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, in the Carolinas Hospital System in Florence. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Tuesday in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Born in Dillon County, Nov. 25, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Luther Carter and Inez Wilkes Carter. She was a member of Dillon First Baptist Church, and was the widow of the late Ellison Steel Cox. Survivors include her children, Allan Cox of Bennettsville, William Cox of Florence, Ronnie Cox of Sumter, Johnny Cox of Columbia, Richard Cox of Greenville, Sylvia Rhames of Hartsville, Michael Cox of Florence, and Dennis Cox of Marion; sister, Gail Broadway of Arkansas; brother, Marion (Shirley) Carter of Dillon; eight grandchildren. Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her son, Steve Cox; brother, Fonzie Carter; and a sister, Barbara Jean Jackson. Published in the Morning News on 2/18/2007.
