DILLON — Maxine McDonald Burns Grainger, 94, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, in the McLeod Medical Center-Dillon. Memorial services will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel. Born in Dillon County, April 15, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Duncan Douglas McDonald and Ophelia Berry McDonald. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, she was first married to the late William S. Burns and then to the late James Colon Grainger. Mrs. Grainger was former president of the State American Legion Auxiliary, and former president of the St. Eugene Hospital Auxiliary. She was an organist and pianist for many Presbyterian churches, volunteered much of her time and talent to the Dillon community, she was best known for teaching thousands of students over 75 years as well as sharing her gift for music at weddings, funerals and all occasions. Survivors include her daughters, Loretta Twinkle Barnhill Williams of Columbia and Sarah B. Susie Clawson of Dillon; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Grainger was preceded in death by her sons, Douglas Mac McDonald Burns and J. Colon Grainger Jr. Published in the Morning News on 12/31/2006.
