    2. COWARD — Waymon Jay Hayes Jr., 69, of 151 E. Friendfield Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, in the McLeod Hospice House in Florence. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel in Dillon with burial in Hayestown Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Born in Dillon County, Jan. 26, 1937, he was the son of the late Waymon and Suda Mae Hayes. He was the widower of his beloved wife, Ida Mae Suggs Hayes. He served in the U.S. Navy in the 1950s, retired from Dupont and was an avid NASCAR fan. Survivors include his daughters, Wanda Smith (Michael Puckett) of Coward and Margie (Mark) Steadman of Florence; son, Waymon Ricky (Wendy) Hayes of Timmonsville; brothers, Woodrow (Trudy) Hayes, Gene (Betty) Hayes and Charles (Nancy) Hayes, all of Dillon; grandchildren, Trey Alexander, Jennifer Smith, Tara Alexander, Justin Alexander, Josh Hayes, Brandon Puckett, Stephen Steadman and Laura Steadman; special canine friend, Kasey. Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by his brother, David Wayne Hayes. Memorials may be made to the McLeod Hospice House, 1203 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506 or to the American Cancer Society, 950, N.
