MYRTLE BEACH | Barbara Ann Page Leath, 69, passed away Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at Conway Medical Center. She was born August 14, 1937 in Dillon, the daughter of the late Oscar Franklin and Anne Lucille Faulk Page. Her sister, Patsy Church of Marion predeceased her. Barbara was the co-owner of Normandy Motor Inn, Inc. for 10 years and Coastal Real Estate and Investments for many years. Most of all, she was known as an outstanding educator with a genuine love for learning and teaching others to learn. She graduated from Mullins High School, attended Lander College and the University of South Carolina, earning a BA, M. Ed., and Ed. Specialists degrees. She was a teacher for 38 years in Marion County, Richland County and Horry County Schools. She enjoyed her teaching career and touched hundreds of lives during those years. She loved her students and always went the extra mile for them. Before her retirement Barbara was active in the SCEA and the NEA. She was a former member of Alpha Delta Kappa Soriety and a charter member of Beta Epsilon of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She was known for having a positive outlook on life and for the warmth and kindness she showed to everyone she met. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. All who knew her will truly miss her and will always cherish the memory of her sweet smile and kind nature. Survivors include her husband, Charles R. Leath, of Myrtle Beach; four sons, Charles W. Paul Sanders III died suddenly at St. Francis Hospital, Charleston on November 7, 2006. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service. The service will be at J. Alexander was first married to the late Nannie McIntyre MacDonald, who passed away November 13, 1991. Mrs. Daniels was born Feb. 12, 1933, in Dillon, a daughter of the late Howard Carter and Annie Ammons Carter. She worked for Dillon Manufacturing Co. for 26 years until it closed and retired in 1999 from Franco Manufacturing Co. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Peggy Daniels of Florence; another son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Diane Daniels of Dillon; a daughter, Tina Louise Daniels Perkins of Columbia (and a son-in-law, Larry Perkins of Columbia); a sister, Catherine Moody and husband, Jack, of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; a brother, Billy Carter and wife, Shelby, of Dillon; a brother, David Carter of California; a brother-in-law, George Bo Daniels and his wife, Edna, of Dillon; and a sister-in-law, Doris Daniels Rouse and her husband, Bud, of Garden City. She was born in Brunswick County, N.C. on August 20, 1939, a daughter of the late Leo Gainey and Ruby Kelly Gainey. Mrs. Butler was a member of the Living Waters Baptist Church in Longs. She enjoyed gardening, working with flowers and knitting. Her special joy was spending time with her grandchildren. One who loved to laugh, she is remembered as an energetic, upbeat and joyful person. She was also one to whom you could take the burden of a problem and she would be more than happy to help find a solution. Surviving are four children, Daniel Perry Jr., Teresa P. Watts, Eric A. LANCASTER — Devitt “Dee” Rogers Jr. journeyed home to God October 31, 2006, in the company of his loving family and friends, his hand held by his brother, Jordan. Dee was born May 15, 1985, in Columbia, the son of Devitt Rogers Sr. of Columbia and Pamela Belk Rogers of Lancaster; he also lived in Dillon. Always athletic, Dee was a soccer and football player from age four and loved the outdoors and nature. An avid sports fan, nothing could keep him from following his beloved Clemson Tigers, Green Bay Packers, Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. He often talked about his trip to see his teams play. Most comfortable with family and friends, holidays with them were a joy to his life. He singled out family trips to Disney, Christmas trips on a cruise, then to Quebec and Montreal and later to San Francisco as favorites. A gregarious young man who loved deeply, he was always full of wit with a sense of humor that endeared him to all who came in contact during his life. Dee touched all who met him with a wonderful capacity for love, compassion and concern. He loved easily and fully to all fortunate enough to share in his life. Always in his thoughts was his best friend, Jared Steele, who passed in an accident October 7, 2005, which Dee survived. Dee is survived by his mother and brother of Lancaster, father in Columbia, grandparents, Billy G and Sara J. Rogers of Dillon, Pat and Paul Belk of Lancaster, great-aunts, Peggy and Madeline Belk of Lancaster, uncles and aunts, Paul H and Courtney Belk of Lancaster, Jeannie and Earl Shelley of Latta, Gordon and Debbie Rogers of Dillon, cousins, Monica (Mark) Calello of Charlotte, Dr. Jocelyn (Ben) Renfrow of Greenville, Sara (David) Stokes of Camden, Billy Rogers III of Charleston, Sara B. DILLON — James Franklin Bailey, 74, died Friday, Oct. 27, 2006. He was born in Dillon County, a son of the late Bill and Monnie Sue Hood Bailey. He retired from the U.S. Army, where he served in the Korean conflict and Vietnam War. He also retired as a truck driver and continued to drive for AVIS of Florence. He was preceded in death by his parents; by a grandson, James R. Bailey and two brothers. Surviving are his wife, Lottie E. Bailey of the home; son, Clifford (Kriss) Bailey of Florence; grandchildren, David (Melanie) Tolar of Charlotte, Jessica Lawless of Hawaii, Kalee Tolar and Amber Bailey, both of Florence; great-grandson, Kawe and Ayden; stepmother, Marie Bailey of Dillon; sisters, Helen (Carl) Brooks of West Columbia and Frances (Cecil) Tyler of Dillon; several nieces and nephews; and many loyal neighbors and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006, in the Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Dillon. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
DILLON — Emma Oviedo Gibbs, 95, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at the Pines Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Saturday in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Born in Dillon County, June 23, 1911, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Gough and Maggie Bryant Gough. She was a member of Little Rock Baptist Church. Survivors include her son, Edward (Gina) Bryan Gibbs of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandchildren, Edward Bryan Gibbs Jr., Eugene Gibbs, Christopher Gibbs, Stephen Gibbs and Patrick Gibbs; step-grandchildren, Sara Hickey, Andrew Hill, AnnaMay Gibbs, Ronald Gibbs and Raymond Gibbs; sisters, Beatrice G. Huggins of the Bethea Home and Ruth G. Burgess of Hampton, Va.; brother, John C. Gough of Lima, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
DILLON — Services for James Robert Graham Lockamy will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2006, at Dillon Church of God with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Cooper Funeral Home. Mr. Lockamy, 86, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, in McLeod Medical Center in Dillon. Born in Red Springs, N.C., June 28, 1920, he was the son of the late Rufus Lyon Lockamy and Rosa Hayes Lockamy. He became a member of Dillon Church of God after receiving Christ as Savior at 17 years of age. He served on Church of Gods State Laymans Board (1976-1982), Layman of the Year (1980), Father of the Year (1979), was a Sunday School Teacher (Mens Bible Class), Councilmen, was on the Building Committee, and he also played the guitar. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Etta Martha Cutchin Lockamy of Dillon; children, James R. (Vivian) Lockamy of Dillon, Martha Rose Bridges of Dillon, Jackie L. (Wanda) Lockamy Sr. of Little Rock, and Richard L. (Carolyn) Lockamy of Little Rock; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Published in the Morning News on 10/26/2006.
