Born in Dillon County, August 2, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Frank Causey and Daisy Vaught Causey. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and was a homemaker. She was the widow of the late Rev. Enoch Caulder. Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Mitchell of Dillon; grandson, Andrew (June) Mitchell of Syracuse, NY; great-grandchildren, Garrett Mitchell and Morgan Mitchell.

    2. CONWAY | Nellie Kate Stephens Miles, 80, of Pebble Lane, wife of the late Willie ''Bill'' Miles, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 9, 2007. Mrs. Miles was born September 11, 1926 in Dillon County, South Carolina, a daughter of the late Henry and Laura Hyatt Stephens. She was a member of the Conway Church of God, where she was very active. Mrs. Miles will be missed by her family, church family and many friends. She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Dempsey; two brothers, Jim Stephens and Harvey Stephens; and a sister, Isla Bethea. Mrs. Miles is survived by two sons, Tommy Miles and his wife, Sandra, of Greenwood, S.C. and Gary Miles and his wife, Peggy, of Longs, S.C.; two daughters, Leila ''Butch'' Pack and her husband, George, of Conway and Joyce Jordan and her husband, Denny, of New York; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2007 at the Conway Church of God with the Rev. Stuart Jacobs, the Rev. Eddie Altman and the Rev. Willard Martin officiating. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at Bethesda Southern United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Kannadays Funeral Home. Mr. Berry was born Oct. 8, 1922, in Dillon County, a son of the late James Stafford and Ida Reason Berry. He worked with Dixana Mills for 34 years and was a farmer as well as an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Berry was a graduate of Latta High School and a member of Bethesda Southern Methodist Church where she served as former church president and chairman of the Board of Stewards. Mr. Berry is survived by his wife, Gladys Cox Berry of the home; sons, Cecil Collins (Debbie) of Florence, Stephen A. Berry Jr. (Barbara) of Timmonsville, Lenneau Berry (Shelia) of Latta and Bryan Wilson Berry (Angie) of Latta; brother, James Stafford Berry Jr. of Latta; sister, Annie Ruth Hill of Lake View; 20 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. Brothers Carlisle, Clifton, Henry, Lenneau and Victor Berry, and daughter, Carolyn Elizabeth Collins, predeceased Mr. Berry. Born in Marion County, she was the daughter of Henry Bennett and Daisy Coleman Avant. She was a graduate of Centenary High School and had retired as certified dietary manager of Marion Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years, was a member of WMU where she held many offices, and was a member of the church choir. She was a longtime member of the Rains Grange, Pomona Grange and Rains and Marion County Home Demonstration Clubs, holding various offices in each. Surviving are sons, James B. (Sherry) Atkinson of Centenary, Benton Lavern (Audrey) Atkinson of Mullins, Keith (Missy) Atkinson of Brittons Neck and Van (Marie) Atkinson of Rains; daughters, Shirley A. Hunt of Sumter, Rosemary A. (Marcus) Bethea of Dillon and Beth A. (Frank ) Collins of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Irma Evans of Charleston; and 13 grandchildren, 10 stepgrandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Reverend Benjamin J. She graduated from Winthrop College with a degree in education and she retired in 1985 as a school teacher in Dillon County after 31 years of service. Mrs. Rogers was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Delta Kappa Gamma and the American Legion Auxiliary. Mr. Richardson was predeceased by his wife Myrtie Lee Richardson. He enjoyed fishing and eating on the river with family and friends, but most importantly was his great love and faith for his Lord and Savior whom he had been serving for many many years. Graveside memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Baltimore Maryland. Visitation will held 7-9 p.m. Friday, January 5 at Burgee-Heuss Funeral Home. Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

    2. DILLON — Maxine McDonald Burns Grainger, 94, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, in the McLeod Medical Center-Dillon. Memorial services will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday in Cooper Funeral Home Chapel. Born in Dillon County, April 15, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Duncan Douglas McDonald and Ophelia Berry McDonald. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, she was first married to the late William S. Burns and then to the late James Colon Grainger. Mrs. Grainger was former president of the State American Legion Auxiliary, and former president of the St. Eugene Hospital Auxiliary. She was an organist and pianist for many Presbyterian churches, volunteered much of her time and talent to the Dillon community, she was best known for teaching thousands of students over 75 years as well as sharing her gift for music at weddings, funerals and all occasions. Survivors include her daughters, Loretta Twinkle Barnhill Williams of Columbia and Sarah B. Susie Clawson of Dillon; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Grainger was preceded in death by her sons, Douglas Mac McDonald Burns and J. Colon Grainger Jr. Published in the Morning News on 12/31/2006.

    2. Edwina Black Francese, 85, of Lake View, SC, formerly of Charleston and the wife of Gaetano J. Francese, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 28, 2006. Mrs. Francese was born in Millett, SC, the daughter of Edward J. Black and Carrie Dunbar Black, on Friday, July 1, 1921. She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, where she served in many varying capacities throughout the years. Mrs. Francese was a graduate of Allendale High School and attended Rice Business College in Charleston. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Gaetano J. Francese; a daughter, Carolyn Lupo and her husband Paul; two grandsons, John Paul Lupo, Kenneth Lupo; one sister, June B. Furman; two sister-in-laws, Margaret Black, Vinzenca Francese and many nieces and nephews. The relatives and friends of Mrs. Edwina Black Francese are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 31, 2006 at John Wesley United Methodist Church. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service. The burial will be held in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.
