DILLON -- Francis Guy Hamilton, Jr., 78, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence. Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Born in Horry County, SC, November 12, 1935, he was the son of the late Francis Guy Hamilton, Sr. and Pauline Dew Hamilton. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran having served for fourteen months on assigned duty in France. After returning home he joined the S.C. Highway Patrol February 17, 1957 serving Marion, and Hemingway Counties, and Dillon since 1961, and retiring in 1984. He was a member of Wannamaker Baptist Church, and was also a Mason and a Shriner. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Joyce Hamilton of Dillon; daughter, Winkie (Kevin) Daniels of Dillon; son, Joey Hamilton of Nichols; brothers, William Hamilton and Larry Hamilton, both of Nichols. Her activities as a member at Main Street United Methodist Church included the Eulalia Cook Circle, Builders Sunday School Class, Sunday School Teacher for many years, United Methodist Women, Worship Committee, Pastor-Parish Committee, and the Administration Board. Her many civic organizations included membership and past president of the Dillon Garden Club, Charter member of the Palmetto Cabinet, Junior Charity League, and St. Eugene Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of The Cotillion Club of Dillon, Friends of State Museum, Caroliniana Society, and Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Governor Dick Riley appointed her to the Dillon County Historic Preservation Commission. Conway, South Carolina .......Home Going Service for Mr. Gilbert Burke Ellerbe, Jr. age 91 will be held 12:00 PM Wednesday at Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church-504 Church Street- Conway, SC 29526. Interment with military honors in the Hillcrest Cemetery-1000 Highway 544. Visitation will be held 5-7p.m. Tuesday, April 1 at Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Ellerbe the son of the Rev. Gilbert Burke Ellerbe, Sr. and Mrs. Lillie Willis Ellerbe was born in Barnesville, North Carolina but grew up in Dillon County, S.C. Mr. Ellerbe was a retired Educator, business man, WWII veteran, Scout Master, faithful Christian and missionary. He served for 32 years as an Educator at various levels, including higher education at schools throughout Dillon and Horry Counties, completing his career as Assistant Principal at Conway High School. During this time he also served as Director of Horry County Adult Education for 20 years and was also employed by the City of Conway for 25 years as Director of Smith-Jones Recreation Center. He maintained the Ellerbe Family Farm in Dillon County after his father's passing in 1972. He was a World War II veteran proudly serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 through 1946 and the U.S. Air Force Reserves from 1946 through 1949. He was a member of American Legion 111. Mr. Ellerbe served as a Scout Master for Boy Scouts of America, Pee Dee Area Council for over 25 years and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. A member of the Cherry Hill Baptist Church, Mr. Ellerbe served in several leadership roles, including membership in the Baptist Brotherhood serving the region via the Kingston Lake Missionary Association, the state via the Baptist Brotherhood Educational and Missionary Convention. He proudly represented South Carolina as a Baptist Missionary to Kenya, East Africa on four pilgrimages in the 1990's. Mr. Ellerbe received a B.A. Degree in 1949 from Benedict College, Columbia, South Carolina; a Master Degree in 1956 from North Carolina A&T; and completed post grad studies at many institutions including University of Florida and University of South Carolina. He was a charter member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity at Benedict College in 1948 and also a charter member of Conway-Myrtle Beach Alumni Chapter 1972. He was married to his beloved wife Inez Bethea Ellerbe for 65 years and their union produced five children, Lydia Willingham (Elliott), Gilbert Ellerbe, III (Karen), Lynda Wright (deceased), Sylvia Hickman (Marvin) and Vanessa Wyche (George), seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Myrtle Beach.. Gloria (Taylor) Davis Lee died Saturday March 8th. She was born March 14, 1935 in Dillon, SC, the daughter of the late Joe and Metta Taylor. Gloria grew up in Siler City, NC, where she met and married her first husband Herbert Lee Davis who preceded her in death. Gloria graduated from East Carolina University and taught school for 35 years. She was a former member and president of Alpha Delta Kappa. She formed the first Jaycette organization in Siler City and was the first woman Social Chairman of the Siler City Country Club. She was a charter member of the Green Thumb Garden Club and the Rachel Allred Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church in Siler City. Gloria loved to cook and shared many recipes with friends. Gloria and her husband, Sonny Lee settled in Myrtle Beach,SC in 1993.After moving to Myrtle Beach they joined the Newcomers Club, Ocean View Baptist Church, the Love Sunday School Class and the Ocean Drive Shag Club. Gloria was the first recipient of the Al Cain Award. Survivors include her husband, Robert E.Lee, Jr (Sonny) of Myrtle Beach, SC, one son Branson Davis and wife Pearl of Winston Salem, NC, and two grandchildren Jessica and Tanner Davis who were the light of her life. Three stepsons Robert and wife Shannon Lee, Eric and wife Pam Lee, John Lee and several step grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Taylor.
