My name is Rena Forinash. I am researching CROSBYS AND STANFIELDS in Colleton County. I have John CROSBY b. 1808 either in Scotland or Colleton County--it is unclear whether he or his father is the original immigrant. He m. abt. 1855, Rebecca Ellen STANFIELD b.c. 1834. They had one son, John Elias CROSBY born Feb 1856. According to family story, John E. was born after his father had died. I have been unable to corroborate this although Rebecca is shown as head of household in the 1860 Census for Lexington County, Saluda Twp. What is weird is that there are 2 girls ages 11 and 9 as well as John,4, listed with her. Dad may have been married before. If so, there should be some kind of record in orphan's court or something, right? Also in the household is Elizabeth Stanfield. What I need is any info about John or Rebecca. I have been unable to connect him to any of the prolific Crosby familys in Colleton County. I know that a bunch of them went to GA for awhile, but I have been unable to find him there either.
