Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ncB.2ACE/1474.1 Message Board Post: The question about who Benjamin B.. Risher was came up on one of the other forums about 6 months ago, still no answer. http://genforum.genealogy.com/risher/messages/591.html Most of us agree that John and Sarah Risher were livng in Saint Batholomew Parish in the late 1700's. The parish was a part of Charleston Distict at the time. Two of their sons also settled in the parish: Benjamin Risher, Sr. and Richard Risher. Some researchers indicate there may have been another son or sons. But other than Benjamin we don't know if the others married and had families. At the present time, it would seem that Ben was the only one that fathered children. Besides Benjamin B.. Risher other homeless Rishers include Samuel Risher who became a Methodsit minister for a short period. Elethea/Hannah Risher who married Michael Burdge around 1790, and Silas Risher, a Baptist minister who was born in 1808. Most of the Rishers currently living in Colleton County today seem to be descended from Silas. One belief is Silas came to Colleton County in the 1830's; some think he was a native of Colleton County and might be related to the John /Sarah Risher line. Benjamin Risher, Sr's oldest son Francis is also a mystery. Some think Francis moved to Georgia others feel he settled in what is now Berkely County. Generally, it is beleived that Francis married Elizabeth Threewitts and that they had at least two children: Benjamin Risher and Mary Risher, the latter is believed to have married an Owens. In 1843, a Benjamin Risher, became a trustee of Spring Hill Methodsit Church in what is now Berkeley County. Was this the son of Francis Risher? I had thought that this might have been the Benjamin B.. Risher shown in the 1850 Colleton Census. More than likely they were two different men. In 1850 St Jamess Goose Creek Parish was a part of Charleston District. (Its now part of Berkeley County.) The 1850 census shows the following families in St. James Goose Creek Parish: Family #343 Thommas Risher, age 36 Elizabeth Risher, age 32 There are also 4 children whose names I have having difficulty in reading. Family #346 Benjamin Risher, age 40 Susan risher age 30 Eliza Risher age 13 M. Risher, f, age 11 Susanah Risher, age 9 Martha Risher, age 7 Benjamin Risher, age 5 Jane Risher, age 1 Family # 347 Anna Risher, age 42 (believe she was a widow) Thomas Risher, Age 19 James Risher, age 17 Family #348 Richard Risher, age 24 Louisa Risher, age 19 Were the heads of household children or grandchildren of Francis Risher? Were they related to Francis?
