As mentioned the 1850 census shows James Appleby married to Mary Ann. In 1860 he is shown as J. P. Appleby, he was 62. Mary Ann was still living. Not sure what the "P" stood for. As mentioned, Dr. J. J. Stokes of Atlanta showed James Preston Appleby as the father of William Preston Appleby in HENRY STOKES OF COLLETON COUNTY. Not sure if Dr. Stokes reached that conclusion on his own or someone passed it own to him. Dr. Stokes also mentions my great grandfather Henry Allen Williams in his book. Henry served in Company G, 4th SC Cavalry. William Benjamin Risher was Henry's brother-in-law and also his first cousin once removed. J.J. Stokes indicates Henry and his wife Martha only had one child, a daughter named Sarah. There were actually 10 children including my grandfather Henry Bass Williams.
