    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ncB.2ACE/1459.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: A book that will probably answer some of your questions was published by the Old Saint Bartholomew Genealogical Society and contains most of the cemteries in lower Colleton County. http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Escosbc/OrderForm.htm The two cemteries that you mentioned, Bethel Prebyterian Church and Pon Pon Chapel are near Jacksonboro, SC. Bethel is on SC 64, Pon Pon is on Parker's Ferry Road. There are historical markers describing the two churches on SC 64, Most of the visible tombstones in the Pon Pon Cemtery are those of the McCants Family and people who married McCants. For example Archibald Campbell who surveyed Walterboro is buried there. His wife was Ann Sarah McCants. Their son Capt. Archibald Campbell, Company B, 3rd SC Cavalry is also buried there as is his sister Ann Campbell Williams and her husband Oliver Perry Williams. One of the McCants descendants gave a talk in Walterboro over a year ago and he indicated that many more people are actually buried there. Hurricane Gracie which struck the area in Sept. 1959 fell a number of trees that damaged a number of tombstones. From what he said the clean up crews damgaed more and used the broken pieces of tombstone for landfill. Who were your granparents? In October 2004, the South Carolina Genealogical Society will be meeting in Walterboro. One of the events on the schedule will be a Cemetery Preservation Workshop at the Pon Pon Chapel. http://www.rootsweb.com/~scosbc/October-State-Meeting.htm
