Peyton Green Bowman (1809-1891), Methodist missionary to the slaves of the Ashepoo, Combahee and Pon Pon Missions from 1853-1864. Lived in Walterboro and Adams Run, Colleton Co. Had 325 acre farm 20 miles from Adams Run. Wife was Ellen Lartigue Tobin Bowman, daughter of Daniel Tobin of Barnwell County. They offered hospitality to those visiting the Cattle Creek camp meetings in Walterboro. Also want to make contact with descendants of slaves Bowman owned through his wife: Arthur Bright, born 1818, and his wife Peggy Bright, born 1816. Peggy had 5 children—Celia, Indy, James, Alfred & Arthur—who might have gone to one of Ellen Bowman's brothers.
