Wendy, I can't remember the name of it, but many libraries that carry the Census microfilm also carry a book which contains small maps of where the townships were for the different US Census years, or if close to the library, may have the actual maps. Note also that Glover Township is not the same thing as a town named Glover. Look in the dictionary for the definition of township and you will see what I mean. Townships in the Census were a geographic area lumped together for the purposes of the census. That year the districts became counties. For example, Colleton District became Colleton County. Also. in 1868 counties were divided into townships. Walterboro, the county seat is in Verdier Township. One of the other townships was Glover Township which included Cottageville and Round O. In NARRATIVES OF COLLETON COUNTY, the late Beulah Glover pointed out an 1868 map of Glover Township indicates Gloverville was one of the important places.

I am the founding director of the University of South Florida Africana Heritage Project. Our mission is to rediscover precious records documenting former slaves and to make those records available on a free, public access internet site. Our researchers travel far and wide to transcribe records from archives, libraries and county records, before these are lost to history. Our largest focus, however, is within the genealogical community. We recognize that the majority of the records that mention slaves have actually been discovered by folks researching their own ancestry. So many folks have these records, and wish to share them, and that is where our Africana Heritage Project comes in. Our goal is to be a central home on the internet for any and all records that document slaves. Our website, which will be hosted by Rootsweb (God Love 'Em), is now under construction, and we are accepting submissions from the genealogical community. We are seeking any records that document slaves anywhere in the United States. We cherish our contributors. Please let us hear from you at toniheadr@aol.com . God Bless! This helps to establish some birth dates that I was missing. Do you have any further records on Caroline? She married Andrew Jackson Smoke / Smoak. He is shown as living in the 1870 census. In the 1880 census Caroline is shown as a widow. I can't find anything reflecting where they were buried. There is information stating that they were buried in the Larisey cemetery. Family historians tell me that there is a lot more buried in the cemetery than reflected by the headstones. I haven't been able to trace many of their children. They had approximately 8 children. Some married into the Johnsons, Graves and Varnadoes.
