Bethel is on SC 64, Pon Pon is on Parker's Ferry Road. There are historical markers describing the two churches on SC 64, Most of the visible tombstones in the Pon Pon Cemtery are those of the McCants Family and people who married McCants. For example Archibald Campbell who surveyed Walterboro is buried there. His wife was Ann Sarah McCants. Their son Capt. Archibald Campbell, Company B, 3rd SC Cavalry is also buried there as is his sister Ann Campbell Williams and her husband Oliver Perry Williams. One of the McCants descendants gave a talk in Walterboro over a year ago and he indicated that many more people are actually buried there. Hurricane Gracie which struck the area in Sept. 1959 fell a number of trees that damaged a number of tombstones. From what he said the clean up crews damgaed more and used the broken pieces of tombstone for landfill. Who were your granparents? In October 2004, the South Carolina Genealogical Society will be meeting in Walterboro. One of the events on the schedule will be a Cemetery Preservation Workshop at the Pon Pon Chapel. http://www.rootsweb.com/~scosbc/October-State-Meeting.htm

I know that one set is buried in PonPon Chapel of Ease aka Brick/Burnt Church and believe the parents of these two could possibly be in same cemetery or the Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Even tried to find 2 Presbyterian Church in Colleton online but of all the possible places for them to be buried, no one has put an inventory of them on line. They have been my brick wall for more years than I care to remember. Do you know if these cemeteries are in the book you mentioned? Thank you Mary

His Grandfather was James Young Miles who lived in serveral counties in Georgia one was Appling Co. and the Vidalia, Ga. area. The sad thing is no one in this family knows who his parents were but it is believed that he was married twice the last time to a Clude Sutton in Dooley Co at the turn of the 20th century. Any information you may have on your Miles who migrated to Georgia would be appreciated. Ann Miles

He married Sabra Walker and had 2 children w/ her: Britton (b.6 Dec 1804) and unknown female (thought to be younger than Britton). I really am stuck on Lewis. I found a Britton George in 1790 and 1800 in Spartanburg. I wonder if he could be Lewis' father because Lewis had a son named Britton...hopefully I can find out for sure. Good luck in your hunt! -Trish

Hey all, I did find out the Fralix's are buried in that at Zion Baptist Cemetery in Walterboro, near Mt. Carmel Road. The thing is I cannot find anyone that knows where in the cemetery they are buried. It seems that the early markers were made of wood or not one placed there at all. I did call the church there and they don't have a listing or know anybody that does. The funeral home there in Walterboro said they run into that a lot. At times they would dig in someone else's spot and have to choose another. The cemetery in question is Zion Baptist Church, RR 2, Box 603, Walterboro, S.C. 29488 Like any suggestions on the above and any Fralix info you have. Take Care all....Jack Gray, Fayetteville, N.C.

My cousin has pictures of Frank Carter, his wife Susan "Sook" and their three adult male sons. We are not sure of his Frank Carter's relation to our Nancy Carter Lott b. c. 1845 married Pinckney Wyatt Lott b. c. 1850. Nancy's parents were William and Mary Lott. Some of her siblings were Perry Carter, Martha Ann Jane Carter m. Franklin Durant Gatch. In a c. 1917 article of the Press and Standard, Franklin Durant Gatch is referred to as Reverend. If you are researching this line, I would be happy to make copies available to you of the pictures if you could provide more family information for us.
