    1. [SCCOLLET] Middleton/Lemacks
    2. Is there a chance that the Middleton and Lemacks families were related? I have note of a Middleton Lemacks who married Mary Ann Hudson 6 Mar 1859 in Beechill, Colleton Co. My Lemacks ancestors are: Elvira Lemacks, daughter of Charles Hayne Lemacks and Ann Jones. In 1822 Elvira Married James Decatur Addison who was born in March 1801. Looking for info on any of these families. Does anyone know where i can find a copy of the book, "Family Sketches" by Dr. James Reddick? Many thanks, Carole Williams San Jose, CA

    2. Dawn Cook
    3. Hello All: Does anyone know if the cemetery book being publised by the St. Bartholomew Historical/Genelogical Society will include African American cemeteries? I was dissappointed to find that the book, CEMETERIES OF UPPER COLLETON COUNTY by Evelyn Bryan contained no African American cemeteries. It would be certainly be appreciated if local genealogists would publish a book that included African American cemeteries as well. All the best, Dawn

    1. [SCCOLLET] surname HARPER
    2. Hello, I'm searching for information about Loyalist THOMAS HARPER, who applied for a land grant in 1783, then subsequently moved to Sunbury Co, New Brunswick, where he received a land grant in 1784, his age at that time being 85 years, thus born about 1700. I believe he also had at least one son (grandson?), WILLIAM HARPER, born in 1759, Willtown, SC (as per his tombstone) who also was a Loyalist and settled in Prince William Co, New Brunswick. Any information about this family would be greatly appreciated. Meg Gibbs in Delaware

    3. Hello, I need some help and hope you will assist me. William T Barrow m Nancy Broxton. They are my gg Grandparents. Would like to know if Anna Maria (Mary) Varn did indeed marry John Braxton/Broxton in Colleton Co 5-17-1752 and produce a child named Nancy Broxton. Does someone have the marriage book no and pg. for the marriage? This would allow me to write for a copy of this document for my files. Also a census or something showing a child named Nancy, Family #, Pg., Dist. or something that verifies Nancy. I have recently gotten flack from a researcher stating this is not true. John & Mary are not the parents of Nancy. I thought this was a given and failed to obtain proof on my recent trip to Colleton Co. Thanks for any help, Winn

    2. Elizabeth Russo
    3. Following is an ad appearing in the August 21, 1762 issue of the SC Gazette. I would love to know more about this place. I suspect it was owned at one time by DR. JOHN HUTCHINSON, one of his sons, or RIBTON HUTCHINSON. I note that from a USGS search that it is still called Hutchinson Island today. ------- "TO BE SOLD, "One half of Hutchinson's island, containing upwards of eight hundred acres of very fine rice land, watered by every spring tide, fifty acres of which are dammed in, and about eight in the whole cleared, with a barn thereon of 68 feet by 39, an overseer's house of 36 by 18, a brick chimney and two good floors to each, eight negro houses, a rice-machine, and the whole new, well framed, and built with good sawed stuff, situated upon a bank of near four acres, far above the highest tide, and within a quarter of a mile of the town of Savannah. This valuable plantation is already divided into two tracts of 405 acres, and will be sold together or separate, there being convenient high land for buildings and a very extensive front to both: Also two lots of land containing forty acres in the whole, being part of a tract called Yammacraw, bounded to the east on the common of the said town, the south on Ewensburgh, the north on a lot purchased by WILLIAM GIBBON, Esq., and to the west on Musgrovove Creek. For further particulars enquire of MR. JOHN GORDON, merchant in Charles Town, JOHN MULLRYNE, Esq., at Beaufort, or the subscriber in Savannah--- GREY ELLIOTT"

    3. Helen, Upper Colleton County, as far as the book goes, is north of an arbitrary line which goes through Walterboro slightly South of the center. Some (many?) cemeteries around Walterboro are NOT in the book, but Smoaks and Lodge are north of Walterboro and are included (such as Smoaks Baptist Church Cemetery near Smoaks and Carter's Ford Baptist Church near Lodge). If you just want to order the book, send to Mrs. Bryan a check ($50.00 or $53.25 for Florida residents) with your name, address and the name of the book ("Cemeteries of Upper Colleton County") as she has authored several books and she will send it to you (price includes shipping via US Postal Service Book rate).
