Hello Listers I have found the following reference at Ancestry.com (free subscriptions are great!) and wonder whether I may pose a couple of questions to the folk who will know much better than me about Colleton County SC. The Thomas Guild mentioned below I believe came from the parish of Glamis in Angus, Scotland. He was shipped out to South Carolina in 1716 after the Jacobite insurrections of 1715. He was either an uncle or cousin of my Kyd ancestors, also from the parish of Glamis. Question 1: Where might I get a copy of the original inventory mentioned below? Question 2: What other sources could be recommended that I should look at? I am really interested in finding out whether he had family, where they were etc etc, but my knowledge of research in this period in America is limited and I would welcome any advice. >The South Carolina Magazine of Ancestral Research >SCMAR, Volume VIII >Number 2, Spring, 1980 >Abstracts of Colonial Inventory Book I-I (Continued from Vol. 6, p.178) > >SCMAR, Vol. VIII, Spring 1980, No. 2, p.104 >Pp. 202-203: An Appraisement of all the Goods& Slaves belonging to the >Estate of Thomas Guild Deceas'd September ye 26th 1737. I am looking for information on the family of Rebecca HOFFMAN (12/7/1799-3/24/1862). She was possibly born in the Goose Creek section of SC. However, she married 1/20/1820 William Fox, Jr of Colleton. The 1800, 1810, 1820 Colleton County censuses list various households with variations of the spelling of HOFFMAN: 1800: Thomas HOFFUM (page395) 1810: Daniel HOFF (page 324); John HOFF (page 311); John HOFF Sr (page 323); Joseph HOFF (page324); Thomas HOFF (page 328) 1820: Thomas HOFFMAN (page 45) Does anyone know about the early HOFFMAN families of Colleton and if Rebecca was connected to one of them? Thanks for your help. Barry Fox Greenville, SC
I don't know if I've asked this on the list before, but does anyone else have ancestors from SC who migrated to Brazil after the war? I'm sure most of them were Confederate Soldiers and their families, but the 3,000 or so immigrants, called Confederados, also included Confederate supporters. SC Queries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Colleton?read=967 Surname: SELARS ------------------------- I need information on Thomas Blocker born 1809 who married Mehala Selars born 1815. According to Colleton Co. Census Records, Thomas was an overseer; he and Mehala had 6 children. (Their first child, Ann Rebecca, was my grandmother). I'm not sure of Mehala's maiden name, except through family information passed down, which may or may not be correct. I have no Bible Records, wills, deeds or anything to prove her name. I would like to find Mehala's maiden name; also their wedding date, death dates, cemetery records, if possible. Please contact me on the query board or either by email. Thanks, Sue

Posted on: Colleton Co. SC Queries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Colleton?read=964 Surname: Price, MacDonald ------------------------- Is it possible that the O'Brien Smith who married Annie Prichard had a second son, O'Brien Smith Price, born abt. 1832-35 (census)? This younger O'Brien married Charlotte MacDonald, and one of their daughters was named Charlotte CORA Price. She was b. April 1862. Her death certificate names her father as O'Brien Smith Price. The elder O'Brien died at age 48 in Charleston, 1843 (Charleston Observer, issue of July 22, 1843). The Archives have no surviving records of his probate records. In 1850, the Colleton census shows an O'Brien Smith, age 16, student, living with Isabell and James Steadman. 1860, he and Charlotte are married. By 1880, Charlotte has died, and he is married to Esther W.
