SC Queries Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/SC/Colleton?read=988 Surname: Brunson, Thames, Riley ------------------------- Yolanda, Thanks for your response, I appreciate your offer. I am looking for any information on my great grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Brunson, 1841-1913, which might lead to his parentage. As an adult he lived in the area of Hampton County (Gifford & Crocketville). Sometime before 1900, he moved to Heyward Township,Colleton County. At the time he was in Colleton County, he was married to Adeline Thames,(1859-1910). The receipt from 1906 was kept by some family members, and is from a business in Hampton,SC. The store was W.F. Cummings, which dealt in hay, lumber, grain, etc. It is obvious from the receipt that the two men listed split the cost. The total was divided by two in pencil, leaving a sum of $13.50 each, and I thought perhaps they owned or operated neighboring farms. Since neighbors were often extended family members, I thought the name of Prester or Preston might be a clue. The parents of Thomas Jefferson are my brick wall, so I am always on the look-out for any possible leads.

Where did you get the receipt? I'm looking for information on my grandfather Thomas Stephens (black) who was in Hendersonville, and have been able to find nothing except the listing of him, his wife and children on the 1920 census. 2. Sullivan, John
    3. Mary, My notes show it as Heyward Township (not Haywood), just outside of Walterboro somewhere. Most genealogical libraries have a book (I don't remember the name) which has the names of all the Townships canvassed for each Federal Census, including all states and all census years. It also contains small maps showing where the townships are located. I looked Heyward up in the book as I was not sure of the spelling from what was written on the census pages. I have read that you can also get copies of the actual maps from the census bureau, but I have not persued this. I will check it out. I noticed that your surname list contained the name Priester. Isn't one of the variants of Priester Prester? The reason I am asking is because I have a receipt from 1906. It is for some farming supplies, and it is made out to my great grandfather, T.J. Brunson and a John Prester or Preston. It's difficult to decipher the last two letters of the name.
