I understand that she is the only person buried there, single grave on private property. I understand the tombstone is still there...it was in someone's yard, but in very recent yrs. home (probably not Ford's home!) was torn down. Have not been to Givhans Cemetery near Sardis but have been to Adams Grove Cemetery (where Philip Milhous is buried) and Pleasant Hill Presy. Church (Philip Milhous's first wife, F. R. Vasser Milhous) is buried. Am a descendant of Philip Milhous and his first wife Frances Rebecca Vasser. Is the Malachi Ford who certified J. P Givhan's will in Colleton District Sc in 1830. related to Eliza's husband? What happenned to Elijah Ford after the couple separated? Tried to email you directly, but was not successful. Katherine Hill Thank you for info on Eliza Miller's memoirs. Had tried to get it through NSDAR but they have lost the copy which was given to them in the 1980's.

Surnames: Givhan, Miller, Ford, Milhous Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/ncB.2ACE/1321.3.1 Message Board Post: The Eliza Miller family history is a typewritten document that was copied by her descendants from her hand-written account. It is several legal sized pages. I had a copy for about twenty years, but it has somehow disappeared. I got my copy from the Charleston Historical Society in 1971, but they should still have it on file. It is partly about her grandfather and father's lives at Givhan's Ferry, S.C. and then her early life at Sardis and later married life in Pontotoc County, Miss. It was written in about 1880. The only error I found in it is that she says the original Philip Givhan in the colonies had a sister who was one grandmother of Bishop James Osgood Andrew of the Methodist Church. That grandmother was a descendant of the brother of Philip Givhan's first wife. All the other information in the document is from her personal knowledge and seems to be accurate. She does state that Philip Givhan was a Huguenot from Edingburg, France. The Huguenot Society does list a Richard Gavyn or Givan who came to Maryland and there is no indication of any connection. They have no other name that even slightly resembles Givhan. However, there are some other indications that he was French. In those days, a person's tombstone often gave a brief family history and Eliza's information may have come from that. In her history she mentions the family cemetery at Givhan's Ferry. I visited the Jacob Givhan family cemetery at Sardis in 1980. Some of the monuments were almost unreadable. Is that where Eliza Ford is buried? Thanks for the message. Are you related to the Givhans?
